WD launches Green Drive - World Environment Day 2012

Press Release-Western Digital
Western Digital®, today announced that the company will plant up to 1,000 trees in Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh as part of its ‘Green Drive’ that commenced on World Environment Day. Through a series of initiatives lined up prior to the event, WD will contribute to the green cause and spread awareness about environmental concerns among its customers and partners.

The company has tied up with JAAZ, an initiative by Ms. Jaazbia Khan, a Lucknow-based school student, to assist with the planting and upkeep of the trees. The tree planting will convert a piece of arid land over a period of four weeks, and will be concluded in the presence of Khwaja Saifuddin, WD’s senior director of sales for South Asia, CSC_2011.JPGMiddle East and Africa and local channel partners in mid-July 2012 as monsoons hit the state. The initiative will help bring up the depleting water table in the area while creating employment for local youth.

WD commenced the ‘Green Drive’ at major traffic signals in Delhi and NCR regions, with a group of volunteers handing out leaflets made of eco-friendly material with tips on conserving fuel. The ‘Green Drive’ extends to WD’s Facebook® and Twitter™ platforms to engage online users with the initiative through useful tips on going green, and giveaways.

As part of the ‘Green Drive,’ channel partners in major IT hubs received the day’s newspaper from WD in specially-made jute bags. WD Reseller Contact Programs have been organized in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan to educate channel partners on green hard drives for desktop and enterprise applications that reduce power consumption vis-a-vis standard hard drives.

Khwaja Saifuddin, who is spearheading the special initiative in India, commented, "Environment friendly products that consume less power or reduce harmful emissions are available in the market at affordable prices. Our objective is to remind consumers to make the green choice when purchasing any device. After all, we have not inherited this planet from our forefathers but borrowed it from our future generations; let’s give it back in the best condition.”

WD’s green range of internal hard drives such as the Caviar® Green™ 500 GB – 3 TB and AV-GP™ 1 – 3 TB feature WD’s GreenPower Technology™ that delivers cool, noise-free performance and helps users save up 40% in hard drive power consumption. The company’s My Book® range of external desktop drives also uses WD’s GreenPower Technology™ hard drives.
