NASSCOM Foundation volunteers run to promote inclusion in the workplace

The IT-BPM industry is taking head-on the cause of an inclusive workplace by running in the TCS World 10K Marathon for NASSCOM Foundation. As a key pillar of the NASSCOM Diversity and Inclusion platform, including persons with disabilities demonstrates both the intent and potential of the tech sector. The Foundation is participating in the prestigious Bangalore sporting event in the spirit of volunteerism through the MyKartavya program. More than 250 volunteers from 13 member companies are showing their support and shall run under the banner of NASSCOM Foundation in the marathon scheduled for May 19, 2013.

On one hand, persons with disabilities are among the most marginalized sections of society, while on the other creating an inclusive work environment has become a business imperative. Creating an inclusive work environment is about more than just an equal opportunity policy. It is about valuing diversity and letting everyone know that his/her contribution is mission critical. NASSCOM Foundation strongly believes that for organizations to become completely inclusive, it is important that the requirements for hiring persons with disabilities including accessibility tools, sensitivity training and infrastructure modifications are well understood. The Foundation has been working with both member companies and the disability ecosystem towards the same in the IT-BPM sector.

“For the past year we have been working with the Wadhwani Foundation to get persons with disabilities employed in the IT-BPM sector. Today, the fact that 251 MyKartavya volunteers are running in Bangalore for inclusion demonstrates that our industry is moving beyond placement numbers to valuing diversity. For so many from 13 companies to see this as their duty or kartavya is both inspiring and encouraging" says, Ms. Rita Soni, CEO – NASSCOM Foundation.

The NASSCOM member companies that will be participating in the marathon include: ABB India, Aditya Birla Minacs, Attra Infotech Pvt. Ltd, Centurylink Technologies India Pvt. Ltd, Cisco, Concentrix Technologies India Pvt. Ltd, EMC India, Hibu India Pvt. Ltd (Yelladworks), IBM Daksh, Mahindra Satyam, Motorola Mobility India, Prosearch and Tech Mahindra.
