REAR ADMIRAL AJIT KUMAR TO ASSUME OFFICE AS CHIEF OF STAFF

Rear Admiral Ajit Kumar P will assume Office as the Chief of Staff of Southern Naval Command on 17th August. An alumnus of Sainik School Kazhakootam and National Defence Academy, Rear Admiral Ajit Kumar has graduated from eminent institutions in higher learning in warfare and strategy such as Defence Services Staff College Wellington, College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai  and Naval War College, Newport, USA.

In his career spanning over 31 years in the Indian Navy, he has held several key staff and afloat appointments, the last being the Fleet Commander of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy based at Visakhapatnam. Rear Admiral Ajit Kumar's other important afloat appointments are commands of the Destroyers INS Mysore and INS Mumbai, Stealth Frigate INS Talwar and Corvette INS Kulish. His  staff assignments  include Assistant Chief of Personnel (Human resources Development) of the Navy and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of Western Naval Command.  Rear Admiral Ajit Kumar P has also served as the Commanding Officer of INS Dronacharya, -Navy’s Gunnery and Missile School at Fort Kochi from July 2004 to December 2005. He has also been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India in 2006.
