Citizens of South Bangalore woke up to a colorful start as volunteers from Child Rights and You (CRY) painted the Christian Cemetery wall (Hosur Road Checkpost bus stop) The painting showcased CRY’s intention of “Ensuring a lasting change for children”. The event was part of CRY’s Vote for Child Rights campaign to advocate the cause of ensuring that Child Rights becomes an intrinsic aspect of manifestos of all political parties in India. Speaking about the event, Suma Ravi, Regional Director, CRY (South) said, “Our intention in painting walls was to engage with the common man on the street and to include them in our campaign of getting Child Rights due weight-age and importance within the political party manifestos. We plan to hold many more of such painting events across the city in our bid to popularize our Vote for Child Rights campaign”
The nationwide Vote for Child Rights campaign kick started on the 13th of November 2013 and includes different activities ranging from signing pledges from the general public to getting prominent personalities from across India to support the campaign, to holding of city centric events to showcase the current state of Child Rights in India.
The campaign firmly believes that India’s children who account for one third of the population deserve the collective demonstration of our commitment towards child rights. It also calls for action to express zero tolerance towards violation of child rights so that every child can be assured of a happy, healthy and creative childhood. That can happen only if children are recognized as rights holders and people in power remain committed towards providing care, protection, essential services and opportunities to each and every child.
CRY is working to ensure lasting change in the lives of underprivileged children, and YOU too can help - by making your vote count. Pledge your support - Vote for Child Rights at www.cry.org/voteforchildrights
