Tata Motors has introduced its new compact sedan, the Zest in Bangalore today.The petrol variant starts from Rs.4.69 lakh (ex-showroom), while the diesel variant is priced upwards of Rs. 5.73 lakh,ex-showroom, Bangalore.
Zest comes with turbocharged petrol engine and 1.3-litre Multijet diesel motor. The former is termed as “Revotron” and puts out good numbers on paper – 90PS of power and 140Nm of torque. This engine is fairly nice to drive thanks to oodles of torque in the low and mid-range and gets a certified economy of 17.6kmpl.The car has a top speed of 158 kmph.
The diesel engine puts out 90PS of power along with 200Nm of torque. This one gets a rated economy of 23kmpl. The talking point here is the new AMT or automated manual transmission that is being offered as an option.AMT is basically a manual gearbox that uses computer controlled actuators to operate the clutch and shift gears.
