BBMP Fails To Report to Health Dept.
Bengaluru: So far, 28,592 dengue cases has been reported in Karnataka in 2017. The number of positive dengue cases in Bengaluru has crossed over 3,000 this year. As per the data made available by the state surveillance committee areas under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) alone accounts for 33 per cent of dengue cases in Karnataka. BBMP limits which had 356 positive cases of dengue in 2016 (till July) has witnessed a steep increase with 1,900 people testing positive for the disease. Similarly, Bengaluru urban district which had 40 positive cases in 2016 has witnessed a spurt in 2017 with as many as 117 positive cases. This apart, 1,716 people are suspected to have been affected with the dengue virus in Bengaluru urban district.In July itself the government-run Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH) witnessed some 453 suspected dengue cases and 11 deaths because of the disease.
