Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced the official launch of its global 2013 Green Boot Camp Program. Honeywell Green Boot Camp sponsors aspiring middle school teachers interested in teaching sustainability at a five-day workshop in San Diego, California, this June. The application is open to qualified teachers.
First introduced in 2009, the Green Boot Camp focuses on best practice instruction methods for teaching energy, sustainability and environmental concepts. The program is hosted by Honeywell, San Diego Gas and Electric, the California Center for Sustainable Energy, and the Urban Corps of San Diego County. Its curriculum was developed by experts from Honeywell and the three San Diego organizations on behalf of middle school educators across the globe to emphasize project-based learning about renewable energy, water quality, solar and more.
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
· Have a good command of the English language (including listening, speaking and writing)
· Can finish the English application process online independently
· Teach at the middle school level
The deadline for completing the online application form is March 15, 2013.
The online application is open to current middle school teachers from any teaching discipline. Visit http://www.honeywellinteract.com/greenbootcamp/ to access, complete and submit the online application form.
Selected teachers will attend the camp in San Diego from June 24 to 28, 2013, and will receive sponsorship including 5-day training curriculum, round-trip airline tickets, hotel accommodations and other training materials expenses.
In 2012, the program received 351 applications from around the world with a final selection of 70 individuals attending the workshop.
Jyoti Bodhe, a maths teacher in DES Secondary School, Pune, became the first Indian teacher to attend the program in 2012. “The project-based teaching methods at the camp were unique and interactive. The program was designed to help us teach topics such as energy conservation, recycling for sustainability and environmental concepts more effectively,” she said. “This was an exhilarating, lifetime learning experience which I will be able to pass on to students for many years to come,” she added.
