Indian Institute of Packaging launches “INDPACK 2014”
Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), a premier Institute and an autonomous body working under the administrative control of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India will hold the 16th edition of National Packaging Exhibition & Conference “INDPACK 2014” on January 16-18 2014. This 3 day mega event will be held at the Hall no.6 Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural function of "INDPACK 2014" on 16th January, 2014 at 10.00 am at Hall No. 6, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi was Ms. Anita Agnihotri, IAS, Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
The main objective of INDPACK 2014 is to provide Indian Packaging Industry a unique platform where Indian Packaging Industry would showcase “State of the Art” Packaging Technology and Machinery, products and services along with International companies providing effective packaging solutions in terms of Costs, Productivity suitability and quality.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Ms. Anita Agnihotri, IAS, Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India said, “This is the 16th edition of INDPACK, which is being held every year in different parts of the country. I personally believe, as the Institute is working as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, they do have mandate to promote the export market. In the world scenario, the total turnover of packaging industry is about USD 550 billion where Indian share is about USD 24.6 Billion per annum. The annual growth rate of this sector is about 15% per annum and it is expected that annual turnover of Indian Packaging industry will touch USD 32 Billion by 2025. The huge response to the exhibition is testimony to the importance of packaging in the modern economy.”

Prof. N.C. Saha, Director, Indian Institute of Packaging said, “The three days exhibition of INDPACK-2014 is being organized with a total area of 4500 sq. mtr where about 90 exhibitors from all over India has participated. In INDPACK-2014, we have also taken a special effort to make a separate pavilion for Small Scale Industries with an area of 6 sq. mtr for each booth. We have also invited few Government organizations like Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Spices Board, APEDA who are dealing with the packaging of fresh and processed foods for export.”

About the Packaging Industry
As per a Pira Report, the world packaging market is estimated to be USD550 billion and the forecast is that the global packaging industry will swell to almost USD 820 billion by 2016 Driven mainly by increasing demand for packaging in emerging and transitional economies, a 3% per annum growth rate will focus on board products and rigid plastics, with USD 40 billion and USD 33 billion in cumulative predicted growth respectively to 2016.

About Indian Institute of Packaging

The Indian Institute of Packaging is an apex body of the packaging industries in India. IIP is ceaselessly working since 1966 with the active support of packaging and allied industries and Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The Institute is dedicated to serve the nation and the industry to achieve excellence in packaging.
The Institute began its activities in a very humble manner with an Office at Mumbai and now has expanded across the country. The Institute opened its first branch office in Chennai in 1971 followed by Kolkata in 1976. In 1986, the Northern Regional Center of the Institute was set up in Delhi and in 2006, the fourth branch was opened at Hyderabad. The Institute made history in 2013, when the Govt. of Karnataka allotted a land of four acres, to set up a  branch at Bangalore. The foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India Shri Anand Sharma on 15th March, 2013. IIP has already started the construction at Bangalore. An institute has also been proposed for Guwahati.
Recently, a foundation stone laying ceremony for a  New Educational Complex & International Packaging Centre for B.Tech at IIP Mumbai was done at the hands of Dr. E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Government of India; further to  the Ministry of Commerce giving “in principle” approval to the Institute for obtaining the recognition as Deemed University

The facilities & services offered by the Institute are aimed at making existing modes of packaging perform better and developing new packaging to meet the demands of presents and new markets. The diversified activities of Institute encompass the entire spectrum of the packaging including Research, Development, Education, Training, Testing, Information, Exhibition, Design, Publication, Library and Data Base services.
The Institute is closely linked with International Organizations such as World Packaging Organization (WPO) and Asian Packaging Federation (APF). The services are recognized by the UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), ITC (International Trade Center), The Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC) and the European Economic Community (EEC). IIP laboratories at Mumbai are NABL Accredited and recognized by Bureau of Indian Standards.
