Linear accelerator is used for treating certain malignant conditions (cancer), as well as nonmalignant conditions by directing high-energy radiation to the exact areas in the body that are affected by cancer. It may be used in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy. Elekta Ltd, from UK has manufactured the new device, called Synergy Platform and it is already operational.
