National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is organizing the 8th edition of the two-day NASSCOM Product Conclave 2011 on the 9th and 10th of November at Vivanta by Taj, Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore with the theme 'Forces@Work’. The Summit will provide a unique platform for delegates to understand, discuss, and strategize Forces@Work, especially perceived critical for product development companies, which will conceptually encompass all forces, internal and external that would bear direct and dynamic impact on business.
Industry leaders will track the birth and growth of the Indian Software Product Industry through its various growth phases to derive key learning for the present breed of product companies. Broadly classified into ‘Early’ (1980-1990), ‘Growth’ (1990-2000) and ‘Acceleration’ (2000-2011) phases, experts will elaborate on the next level of key skills essential to rise above the crowd and survive risks pertinent to Technology Evolution, Changing Market Dynamics and Shifting Global Economics.
The Indian Software Product Industry has matured over the last three decades. Initially buoyed by ‘Talent’ and now sustained by ‘Evolving Innovation Clusters’, ‘Second Generation Entrepreneurs’ and ‘Initial Set of Exits’, it overlooks a threshold from where it enjoys a larger panoramic view of critical business focus areas, including softer aspects like Forces@Work beyond core competence to build products.
The product landscape has considerably improved in India over the years. The conclave will be a medium to share detailed perspective on the growing trends. Some of these key trends are seen in the areas of mobile phone and tablet based application services, embedded software development, ISV dedicated services and Classical engineering or industrial services. Some of the key themes to look out for include; cloud, tablet, mobile- redefining business landscape, the next wave in software- are you there to ride it?, beyond facebook: global social game opportunities and user experience design- how to make it work best for your start-up.
Mr. Sharad Sharma, Co-Chair, NASSCOM EMERGE Product Group, said, “An improving educational system, increased interest by VC’s in Indian Start-Up Product Companies as a spill-off of good role model companies, Incubation Centres actively promoting entrepreneurship and various other factors have all cumulatively contributed to the positive maturing of the Indian Product Development Eco-system. The next set of challenges will also spring from softer elements like an organizations ability to effectively articulate and reach target audiences, attract and retain talent, understand and manage the behaviour of a complex adaptive system.”
This year’s episode of Product Conclave is promising with some successful serial entrepreneurs and star speakers like Vinod Khosla, Naveen Jain, Vivek Wadhwa, Brad Smith, Sanjiv Sidhu and Vivek Paul engaging the audiences through a 2 day period over targeted tracks and sessions like,
· Ten different ways to improve product pricing
· How to build a high performance lead generation engine?
· Breakaway positioning strategies to create successful technology companies
· How to do pricing for your product? Secrets of a winning product launch – the power of positioning
· Enterprise 2.0: Is collaboration the key to improving employee productivity and customer retention?
Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Krishnakumar Natarajan, Co-Chair, NASSCOM EMERGE Product Group, added, “We are contend with far too many variables at the same time and many of these variables are also in themselves undergoing a change and hence, shifting, in nature. It obviously makes business environments more challenging and therefore we have a renewed impetus to look at businesses more holistically, also including eco-systems that encompass such businesses and eco-systems that lie within such businesses. Forces@Work is one first attempt towards that direction.”
Karnataka leads the pack with 59% of participation from the state, followed by Tamil Nadu with 13%. 37% of these participations came from non-NASSCOM members and 35% of them were specifically product startups. Professionals from within these organisations represented their companies most with 31% being Managers, Directors and VP’s followed by 22% Cofounders and CEO’s & above a close third with 21%. 74% of these companies were small to mid-size with turnovers lesser than 5 crores annually.
