Polaris Wireless, the global leader in high-accuracy, software-based wireless location solutions, today announced that Srinivas Varadarajan has joined the company as vice president of sales and business development for Asia. In this role, Varadarajan will be based in the Polaris Wireless regional headquarters in Bangalore, India, and will lead the company’s efforts to expand its strategic partnerships and client base in the region.
"Polaris Wireless’ strategy of expanding business in Asia requires an experienced leader who understands the market," said Manlio Allegra, Polaris Wireless chief executive officer. "With his successful track record of promoting location services in Asia, Srinivas is uniquely positioned to achieve our goals in the region. I welcome him to the team.”
Prior to joining Polaris Wireless, Varadarajan was the global head of the LBS business unit at Nokia Siemens Networks, where he was responsible for establishing and growing relationships with major telecom operators throughout Asia. He previously was director of business development for the applications practice in the global services business unit at Motorola. His efforts there were instrumental in expanding the consumer LBS business in Japan and China. Varadarajan holds a B.S. in electronics and communication from Madurai Kamaraj University in India.
India is a key market in the region for Polaris Wireless due to its impressive growth. Mumbai-based market research firm Ovum predicts that location-based services in India will grow significantly, bolstered by 80% annual growth in 3G connections over the next five years, and interest from high-value early adopters, such as working professionals and the burgeoning youth sector, which is expected to grow to about 150 million subscribers in 2012. Polaris Wireless has extended its reach in the country by partnering with key players like CanvasM. Polaris Wireless also recently expanded its India ‘Centre of Excellence’ development and operations organization, which was established in 2005 in Bangalore. The company is currently conducting field trials with a major Indian wireless 2G and 3G network operator to prove compliance with India’s Department Of Telecom (DoT) May 2011 mandate for location determination.
"I am very pleased to be joining Polaris Wireless at this important time," said Varadarajan. "High accuracy location solutions are increasingly being considered by Asian governments and telecom operators for purposes ranging from consumer services to public safety applications. With my longstanding experience, I look forward to greatly expanding Polaris Wireless’ business in the region.”
The easy to deploy, easy to maintain Polaris Wireless Location Signatures (WLSTM) solution identifies the location of a wireless device to within 50 meters or less, at low cost, even in tough urban and indoor environments. Polaris Wireless also provides its customers regular product enhancements and updates, and 24/7 technical and operational support to better monitor and improve the performance of its solutions. Polaris WLS is designed to scale as an operator's network grows, providing location capabilities in 2G (GSM/CDMA), 3G (UMTS/CDMA 2000), and emerging 4G (LTE) air interfaces, as well as indoor technologies such as WiFi, DAS, and Femtocells. Polaris Wireless ensures that an operator's critical ability to accurately locate all wireless devices will evolve alongside its network evolution.
