Toyota Continues to Donate Books and Bags to Underprivileged School Children

As part of its ongoing efforts to support the local community, Toyota Kirloskar Motor today contributed school books and bags to more than 1500 students from 10 schools at Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Rangamandhira, Padmanabhanagar in Bangalore. On its tenth year of commencement, this activity has provided support to the needy school children to further the cause of education.


Mr. K. Srikanth, Senior Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, handed over the books and bags to the school children in the presence of Mr. R Ashoka, Hon’ble Minister for Home & Transport, Govt. of Karnataka, Deputy Mayor, Mr L Srinivas, Bangalore, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Ms K Padmavathi, Bangalore- South and Block Education officer Mr Kempaiah, Bangalore South along with other corporates, school teachers & children.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. K. Srikanth said, “We at Toyota believe that education does not only build a strong foundation for growing children but also fosters a sound basis of a society. Every child has the right to be educated and no child should be deprived of such a right. Toyota is committed to provide the basic education to rural poor school children to improve the literacy level of the state and thereby create better society which benefits the nation and economy.

This is the tenth year in which we have undertaken this initiative to further the cause of education. We had started this initiative in 2003 and today we have reached out to more than 7,500 students from 118 schools. We believe in growing together with the local community by fostering a long lasting relationship with them,” added Mr. Srikanth.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor commenced this programme in 2003. From then on, ten schools have been brought into the fold every year, taking the count to 118 schools for the year 2012. The institutions to which the contributions are made are Government schools that have been identified by the Block Education Officer, wherein majority of the students are from economically underprivileged families. This year more than 40,000 note books and 800 bags are being distributed to the identified schools.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has initiated many local community development activities in and around Bidadi and some of the key activities focusing on the development of the local people are – Providing sanitation facilities, conducting health camps – Diabetic, general & eye camp, emphasis on safety education to school children, create eco mind in the children, providing basic infrastructure – benches, desks, computers, learning materials and so on.
