Over 100 volunteers from IT companies such EMC2, Intuit, Mindtree, ING Vysya Bank, Oberoi Hotels, Taj Hotels, Capita, Smart technologies, People Tree Hospital, Quepreon and citizens came together to clean and beautify the model mile which starts from MG Road. The volunteers formed a human chain as the event was being inaugurated by B S Sathyanarayana, Mayor of Bengaluru; M Lakshminarayana BBMP Commissioner; A. Ramachandran, Core member, Founder, Adopt-A-Mile Bengaluru; Chandan Sonowal, Core member Adopt-A-Mile Bengaluru & CEO, SMART Technologies; and Dr. Chandrashekar, Core member Adopt-A-Mile Bengaluru & CEO, People Tree Hospitals.
Speaking during the occasion, A. Ramachandran, Core member and Founder of Adopt-A-Mile Bengaluru said, “Instead of complaining about the problems in the city, today we all have come together to be a part of the solution and work towards beautifying Namma Bengaluru. We look forward to more and more corporate houses participating in this unique initiative.”
B S Sathyanarayana Mayor of Bengaluru commented that, “This is the first time that a city is initiating such activity with strong support from its citizens. We wish success to each and every companies participating for this cause. We urge other cities in India to adopt this model so that we can work towards creating a better environment.” Present at the event was M Lakshminarayana, BBMP Commissioner who added that, “As a part of the ‘Namma Bengaluru, Nanna Koduge’ (Our Bengaluru, My Contribution) campaign, Adopt-A-Mile Benagluru focuses on the streets of Bengaluru. We are happy to support Adopt-A-Mile Bengaluru initiative and are excited to work with corporate houses for a better Bengaluru.”
Corporates sign an MOU with BBMP and Adopt-A-Mile Benagluru before undertaking activities such as placing recycle Trash Cans (Set of 3) every 30 metres, painting the medians every 6 months, planting flower beds on road dividers, placing flower pots on the lamp posts, putting up public interest sign boards, painting of speed breakers (along with signs), rebuilding median bricks (where needed), placing reflectors at the start of road medians, organizing eToilets at regular intervals among other will be undertaken.
