Rajya Sabha MP of Trinamool Congress Jawhar Sircar has resigned from parliament on grounds of corruption in education sector under formar West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee and mishandling of rape and murder of young trainee lady doctor of RG Kar Medical College by the State administration of West Bengal and the subsequent public protest. " I have decided to resign from parliament and from politics from altogether," he wrote in his resignation letter to TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee.
Jawhar Sircar was a Member of the upper house of Parliament who represented the State of West Bengal. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in August 2021.
He was member of important parliamentary bodies like the Joint Consultative Committee on Bio-Diversity Amendment Bill, the Standing Committee on Communications & Information Technology and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry or MSME. Jawhar Sircar served as an Indian Administrative Service officer for 41 years (1975 to 2016),
Sircar joined the IAS in 1975, served as chief executive officer in Prasar Bharati from 2012 to 2016 and was Secretary to the Government of India 2008 to 2012. He has also held important portfolios in the Central and State governments.
