Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2013, the annual rendezvous with the western India and Thar Desert in particular, is set to officially kick start from Delhi on 18th Feb 2013. Spread over six days rallying through interiors of Rajasthan and its deserts the 11th edition of Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm will make it an ultimate test of grit and glory for the participants.
The rally will traverse through the tough and undulating, yet some of the most scenic and picturesque areas of Rajasthan. These include Sardarshahar, Bikaner, Chattargarh, Jaisalmer, Pokharan, Gajnaur, Lakshmangarh, etc. Covering a total distance of 2500 kms, the rally will culminate at Jaipur on 23rd Feb 2013. This year the rally has 5 competitive legs, of these two are night stages to tests the participants on their capability in night rallying.
This year the rally will see over 250 motoring enthusiasts participate in four wheeler, two wheeler and motorquad categories. This includes couples, all women team and enthusiastic elderly driver navigator teams, all testing Man, Machine and Method at what participants call the Mini Dakar.
Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm started in 2003 over the years has become the country’s most sought after motorsport event. Motoring enthusiasts of different age group including women motorists and youth regularly participate in the rally. The Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm is divided into four categoris - Xtreme, Moto, Ndure and Xplore. The rally follows the TSD (Time, Speed and Distance) model and it is open to all cars of any make and model. It is mandatory for the person behind the wheels to have a valid driver’s license.
The scrutiny and administrative check of the rally cars will take place on 16th and 17th February 2013 at Head Quarter of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd located in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
