Leading RTI activists boycott PM #Modi's inaugural address at #RTI Convention at Vigyan Bhawan

Central Information Commission or CIC has invited only a handful of RTI activists, including Aruna Roy, Nikhil Dey, Shekhar Singh, Amrita Johri, Anjali Bharadwaj, Venkatesh Nayak and Lokesh Batra.CIC has broken convention and decided to keep activists out of the meet. CIC Vijai Sharma refused to comment on the issue.
In his speech Prime Minister  Narendra Modi described the "Right To Information" Act as a tool through which the common man has got not just the right to know, but also the right to question those in power. He said that the Union Government's "Digital India" initiative is complimentary to RTI, because putting information online brings transparency, which in turn, builds trust.

The Prime Minister mentioned the auctions of coal blocks, spectrum and FM radio licenses, and said that information should be given out proactively to people.

The Prime Minister called for an end to the silo-approach in Government. He said administrative processes should be run based on trusting the people, rather than doubting the people.
The Prime Minister said RTI has become a tool for good governance. He also described how the PRAGATI platform developed in the PMO has become a vibrant platform for monitoring progress of projects.

"In 2014, the central commission got 31,000 cases and presently has a pendency of over 38,000 cases. It is evident that at this languorous pace of working, RTI will slowly become like the Consumer Act, mainly in existence for commissioners. Citizens must wake out of their slumber and focus on getting commissioners who will dispose over 6,000 cases a year and give clear signals they won't tolerate tardines," The Times of India quoted Former Central Information Commissioner (CIC) Shailesh Gandhi as saying.

Celebrity Chef Kunal Kapur presented an exceptional homemade Mango and Chilli Pickle and a Chundo for Prime Minister Modi at the Nasscom hosted lunch for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at The Leela Palace hotel in Bangalore today.

The menu was well appreciated as it was well-balanced and wholesome.  It consisted of a healthy welcome drink ‘Sambharam’ which is  a spiced buttermilk flavored with lemongrass. It also included a variety of vegetarian starters with the most unique being the “Murungaelai Adai”, (Drumstick leaf pancake) - The dish is high on fiber and has a very unique taste when coupled with Chef Kapur’s homemade pickles including “Mahali” (a traditional Tamil Brahmin pickle made of roots possessing a unique smell of vanilla and cinnamon) and Vazhapoo Vada (Banana blossom fitters) is high on potassium and tastes best when served steaming hot out of the pan with fresh coconut chutney.

Both main courses were served with Nilgiri korma (seasonal vegetable simmered in coriander and mint gravy), araichivitta sambar (aromatic lentil stew), red rice (unpolished red rice from Kerala) and Malabar paratha (flaky south Indian bread).

The icing on the cake was the innippu suvaigal dessert comprising ada pradaman (rice flakes and palm sugar porridge), kasi halwa (slow cooked white pumpkin and saffron), coconut burfi, Mysorepak and palkhova (reduced milk cake).

Prez #Putin and PM #Modi attend World Diamond Conference at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the apex body of gems and jewellery trade in India, in association with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GOI and World Diamond Mark Foundation (WDMF) organized the first ever-global congregation of Diamond leaders in India at the “World Diamond Conference”on December 11 and 12, 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, India. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian PM Narendra Modi attended the inaugural function yesterday.

PM Modi has announced the acceptance of the industry’s proposal for a Special Notified Zone that will help miners bring roughs on consignment basis display and book orders from local buyers. GJEPC’s proposes to conduct weekly auctioning of rough diamonds in collaboration with Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) at Mumbai. The main objective is to provide producers direct access to Indian market and vice versa. India cuts & polishes more than 90% of rough diamonds in terms of carats and more than 70% in terms of value.

"Almost 50 percent of Russian-extracted diamonds goes to India or to companies controlled by Indian capital. Considering the serious volume of these diamond deals, it is worthwhile developing some more advanced cooperation arrangements and establishing closer cooperation between countries. Thus, we are inviting our colleagues to cut diamonds on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Together with Mr Modi we discussed all of this in great detail and gave instructions to corresponding agencies to enhance the efficiency of the diamond business for our countries as much as possible. We are sending the same message to business representatives. To make cooperation more effective, we need to create favourable conditions, establish special administrative and customs procedures, improve these procedures, create better opportunities and enhance the level of security. We are ready for joint productive work in this area," said Mr Putin in his address.

Russia’s Alrosa has finalized three-year contracts for direct rough supply to 12 Indian diamond companies beginning 2015. The agreements were signed by Mr. Illya Raschin, Acting President of Alrosa with the respective heads of each of the companies in the presence of Shri Siddharth, Joint Secretary, Dept. of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The 12 companies selected as clients of the Russian miner include Rosy Blue, Diamond india Ltd, Jasani, KiranGems, Shree Ramkrishna Exports, Hari Krishna Exports, KGK, Dimexon, Venus Jewel, Karp Impex, Sheetal Manufacturing and Asian Star. During the new contract period, the estimated direct sales from Alrosa to Indian companies will be about US$ 700 million, and the total for the three-year period will reach US$ 2.1 billion. This represents a massive five fold hike in the current direct supplies of rough from Alrosa to India and will provide a huge boost to the Indian manufacturers.

Also present on this occasion were Mr.Denis Manturov Minister of Industry & Trade, Russian Federation, Nirmala Sitharaman Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Illya Ryashchin, Acting President ALROSA Russia, Sonam Kapoor, Brand Ambassador, GJEPC along with Vipul Shah Chairman GJEPC and Vice Chairman GJEPC, Pankaj Parekh.
