Axis introduces modular miniature camera series

Axis Communications today introduces a modular camera series that not only gives customers discreet surveillance solutions that provide high image detail, but also great flexibility in choosing the units that are ideal for the installation.

AXIS F Series enables great flexibility and discreetness with superb video performance, even in high-contrast lighting conditions,” says Erik Frännlid, Axis’ Director of Product Management. “The series is based on a divided network camera concept, where the camera is split into a lens and image sensor unit, and a main unit. This concept was first introduced in the AXIS P12 Series. When we developed the AXIS F Series, we took into account the feedback we received from AXIS P12 to provide customers with even better solutions.”

The divided network camera concept allows a small sensor unit to be installed discreetly in tight places and the bigger main unit to be placed elsewhere and away from public view. AXIS F Series consists of units that are all sold separately. The series includes AXIS F41 Main Unit and four compatible AXIS F sensor units with different form factors and lens types for different field of views. AXIS F41 Main Unit houses the processor, network, power, SD card slot and other connections, and can connect to one AXIS F sensor unit. Each sensor unit, which consists of a lens and image sensor, comes with the choice of a 3-m or 12-m (10-ft. or 39-ft.) pre-mounted cable for connecting to the main unit.

Axis announces its first 4K resolution camera

Axis announces its first 4K resolution camera
Axis Communications, the world leader in network video, today announces its first 4K resolution camera, AXIS P1428-E. The 4K standard is defined and approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and offers a video resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 30 frames per second.

The AXIS P1428-E Network Camera is the top-of-the-line model in the compact AXIS P14 Series, designed for outdoor and demanding indoor environments. The AXIS P14 Series consist of seven network camera models ranging from HDTV 1080p to 4K allowing customers to select the camera that best meets their specific requirements and budget, offering efficient and reliable video surveillance in any environment. The new AXIS P1428-E offers a number of value adding features such as remote zoom and focus, a built-in slot for micro SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and I/O connectors for interfacing with external devices.

“Simply put, 4K offers four times the resolution of HDTV 1080p. It is an established industry standard both in motion picture production and for consumer displays with a dramatic pace of market penetration. Now it's time to make use of this new technology also in video surveillance,” says Erik Frännlid, Director of Product Management, Axis Communications.

“An important factor in the development of this first Axis 4K camera was to bring the new industry standard into a product series intended to be implemented into practical use from day one. Initially, it is likely that most customers will be using a standard HDTV monitor. 4K makes it possible to enhance any portion of the screen without losing details. To manage bandwidth consumption, users can view the live video stream in HD 1080p and take advantage of 4K recordings for forensic purposes.”

Axis was among the very first companies to introduce HDTV network cameras in the surveillance market. The introduction of the 4K technology into our product portfolio is a natural step in the journey to respond to customer demand.

The AXIS P1428-E Network Camera with 4K resolution is planned to be available in Q3 2014 through Axis’ distribution channels at a suggested retail price of $999.

Axis enters the physical access control market

Axis enters the physical access control market
Axis Communications enters the physical access control market by introducing a network door controller with built-in web-based software. AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller is a complement to Axis’ existing portfolio of innovative network video products and creates unique integration possibilities for partners and end users.

“Bringing product innovation to the physical access control market is a natural step in Axis’ development as there is a strong connection between access control and video surveillance. As the market leader in network cameras, Axis plays an important role in driving convergence to IP-based products in video surveillance. We now apply that expertise in IP technology to the physical access control market in the same way. The physical access control market is primed to make the entry_manager_admin_schedulesshift to open IP technology,” said Ray Mauritsson, President and CEO, Axis Communications.

AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller is the first non-proprietary and open IP-based access controller on the market. It is a platform for two different solutions. AXIS Entry Manager (AXIS A1001 with built in software) is a ready-made solution for small- to mid-sized businesses—such as offices, industries and retail stores—with typically 10 doors and basic access control requirements.

For larger enterprise systems, AXIS A1001’s open application programming interface enables Axis’ Application Development Partners (ADP) to meet specific customer requirements. Initially, Axis ADP partners Aimetis, Genetec, IMRON, Milestone, Next Level Security Systems and OnSSI are engaged in the development of solutions, which include video integration and advanced access control functionality.
Text Box: AXIS Entry Manager with focus on ease of-use and intuitive access management.
Initially, Axis launches AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller in the US market in Q4 in 2013. The United States was an early adopter of network video technology and is also a huge market for physical access control. The value of the global physical access control market is about USD 3 billion (2012) and will increase to approximately USD 4.2  billion by 2017, which represents an annual growth of 7 percent, according to market research firm IHS*.

“Axis started its innovative quest back in 1984 by developing protocol converters and then continued to printers and storage devices before inventing and launching the first network camera in 1996. Although we now enter the physical access control market, our focus will continue to be on network video products. We expect physical access control sales to represent a small, but important, part a1001_wall_left_2_loof our total business,” said Mauritsson.

Further features of the AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller include:

·         Open architecture that allows easy integration of video, intrusion detection and other systems.

·         Support for Power over Ethernet to reduce the need for separate power cables and proprietary cables.

·         Cardholder data and system configurations are automatically stored and synchronized between controllers and the units can be managed from any computer in the system.

·         a1001_wall_left_poe_1_loEnabler for an ‘edge’ solution with one controller for each door and a fixed price per door. It is fully scalable, eliminating the traditional central controller multiple of 4, 8, 16 or 32 doors.

·         Support for most existing reader protocols and reader types, and standard IT and security equipment such as door locks and door position sensors.

·         The installation wizard and the color coded connectors help users to complete the installation and verify that door locks, readers and other equipment are connected properly.

·         Text Box: AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller is easy to install with color coded connectors and Power over Ethernet. The API is designed for compliance with ONVIF Profile C, which will enable interoperability between clients and devices of physical access control systems (PACS) and network-based video systems.
