#U.S. Launches Airstrike against #ISIS in #Iraq



In a national address Thursday night, Obama said he had authorized the airstrikes after Islamic State militants had moved closer to Erbil, the Kurdish capital in northern Iraq.


"In recent days, these terrorists have continued to move across Iraq, and have neared the city of Erbil, where American diplomats and civilians serve at our consulate and American military personnel advise Iraqi forces," Obama said. "To stop the advance on Erbil, I’ve directed our military to take targeted strikes against ISIL terrorist convoys should they move toward the city.

40 Indian construction workers abducted in Mosul Iraq, ToI reports

40 Indians working on projects near the Iraqi city of Mosul were reportedly abducted by suspected ISIS militants when they were being evacuated from the area on Tuesday, the Times of India reported online.
The report said Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed that no effort be spared to ensure the safe return of the Indian workers. It said national security advisor AK Doval was coordinating the rescue effort.

According to the Times of India report, the Indian government got in touch with Iraqi authorities and rushed its former ambassador to the country, Suresh Reddy, to Mosul.
