India's PC Market declined 20.6 Percent In the First Quarter Of 2014, says Gartner

The combined desk-based and mobile PC market in India totaled nearly 1.9 million units in the first quarter of 2014, a 20.6 percent decrease over the first quarter of 2013, according to Gartner, Inc.

“Consumers accounted for 47 percent of total PC sales in the first quarter of 2014,” said Vishal Tripathi, principal research analyst at Gartner. ”In the absence of any government orders this quarter, the Indian PC market performed dismally, re-emphasizing the fact that sentiments were not very positive in the first quarter of 2014, and enterprises are deferring their purchases. However, with new government leadership, there is a positive sentiment both among and enterprises and consumers, and we expect markets to bounce back in the next two quarters.”

White boxes (including parallel imports), which accounted for 39 percent of the overall desktop market, declined 7 percent in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter, mobile PCs declined 32 percent year-on-year due to a lack of government sales.

Dell increased its market share in 1Q14  due to strong growth in notebooks which increased 43 percent year-over-year. This growth primarily came from the consumer segment where Dell grew by 44 percent.

Top Vendors in the India PC Market are Dell(23%), HP(20%), Lenovo(13.8), ACER(10.7), Others(32%) for the  First Quarter of 2014.

#Dell Survey: Midmarket Companies Aggressively Embrace Big Data Projects

The subject of a meteoric hype cycle, big data has been considered the domain of enterprise organizations and not necessarily a relevant challenge or opportunity for midmarket companies. A Dell Software survey of big data initiatives in the midmarket, however, reveals just the opposite. Big data initiatives, enabled by new analytics tools and strengthening ties between business and IT leaders, are helping midsize organizations achieve the improved product quality and decision making once reserved for large enterprises.

To find out what drives midmarket adoption of big data projects, Dell Software commissioned Competitive Edge Research Reports to conduct a global survey Competitive Edge Research Reports, “Roadblocks Crumbling: Midmarket Companies See Early Success with Big Data,” April 2014     of midmarket executives. Focused exclusively on midmarket organizations, the survey indicates that big data projects have made a significant shift from their enterprise roots, and have become a critical decision-making factor for midmarket companies across the globe. Survey findings also show midmarket organizations today overwhelmingly believe in the potential of big data projects to help them solve tangible business problems, and they are backing up that belief with action.
“Organizations today are sitting on large pools of data also popularly known as the big data. Many mid-market companies in India are unlocking the true potential of big data by making investments in big data analytics and many of these organizations are currently also focusing on refining the quality of business processes. Dell’s survey proves once again the importance of big data in the industry. We at Dell have developed broad range of solutions and services in order to let customers of all sizes leverage big data to make faster and better informed decisions.” - Murli Mohan, General Manager, Dell Software, India

Survey Results Paint a Robust Picture of Big Data Initiatives in the Midmarket

The survey’s most significant finding is that 41 percent of respondents have one or more big data projects already in place, with another 55 percent planning to start one the foreseeable future. Further results show that more midmarket firms plan to use big data analysis to grow their businesses, rather than just find ways to cut costs. Additional findings include:

· 80 percent of survey respondents agree that they need to better analyze their rapidly expanding data collections. Among their top goals: Improve product quality, seize business opportunities and speed decision-making.
· 89 percent of respondents with a big data initiative in progress report significant improvements in company decision making.

· Encouraged by early success, respondents expect big data budgets to rise from between $2 million and $5 million up to an average of $6 million in the next two years as companies invest more in hardware, software and trainingi.

· The biggest drivers of big data project success are IT/business collaboration, proper skills, and performance management to gauge the effects of big data initiatives.

· The most influential departments in big data projects are IT and sales/marketing.

· The most valuable technologies for midmarket companies running big data initiatives are real-time data processing, predictive analytics and data visualization tools.

A host of key drivers are pushing midmarket companies to embrace and invest in big data initiatives. Survey respondents’ report that their top three project goals are to provide better quality products and services, take advantage of new business opportunities, and improve the quality and speed of decision-making. Those goals are followed closely by gaining a better understanding of customer needs, having the ability to respond quickly to competitive threats, and improving the effectiveness of their marketing programs.
Early Results Show an Immediate Impact

Although many midmarket companies are just now getting started with big data projects, the early results show those projects have had an immediate and overwhelmingly positive impact on their organization’s productivity and success. According to the survey, organizations with big data projects in flight report far greater levels of satisfaction with productivity and decision making than those still in the planning phase. For example:

· 50 percent of organizations with a big data initiative in flight are satisfied with the quality and speed of their decision making, compared to just 23 percent among those yet to kick off a big data project.
· 49 percent of organizations with a big data project in progress are satisfied with their ability to improve product quality, compared to just 32 percent of those organizations still in the planning phase.

· 47 percent of organizations in production with a big data initiative are satisfied with their ability to identify and take advantage of new business opportunities, compared to 24 percent of those organizations whose initial big data project is still in developmenti.

Key Success Factors
A well-known but often-ignored best practice for big data projects among enterprise organizations, collaboration between IT and business units is the most often cited prerequisite of midmarket project success documented in the Dell survey, with 41 percent of respondents indicating that strong cooperation between the two groups is needed in order for an initiative to succeed. Other commonly cited success factors include:

· A strong connection between data analytics and performance management in the organization, cited by 37 percent of respondents.
· The availability of required skills – such as those possessed by data scientists – within the organization, cited by 33 percent of respondents.

· The documentation of complete and accurate business requirements, cited by 32 percent of respondentsi.

Midmarket Shows Success, but Room to Grow Remains
While the early results have been stellar for the majority of organizations, there still is room for growth.  Managing data complexity remains the most significant obstacle midmarket companies face as they look to fully embrace the potential benefits of a data-driven approach. According to the survey, 40 percent of organizations consider the need to manage a wide variety of new data types and structures to be a significant challenge, while 24 percent are similarly challenged by what they perceive to be a lack of easy-to-use, cost-effective data cleansing toolsi. In addition, most midmarket organizations still have not yet incorporated social media and other big data sources into their analytics mix, meaning a potentially significant source of analytic insight remains largely untapped.

While the cost and complexity of the required technology have kept some areas of opportunity as yet unexplored, technology keeps improving and budgets for big data-related projects are on the rise.  The Dell survey results show there is no reason midmarket organizations can’t benefit from better analysis of their data, and more importantly, they now know it.

“Dell’s survey shows once again why ‘big’ data is relative term. Being an enterprise organization with large, complex data sets is not a prerequisite to benefiting from a data-driven mindset. When organizations of any size focus on improving the quality of their business processes by becoming more analytical and data-driven, the potential benefits are limitless. The early success midmarket companies are seeing with their big data initiatives will encourage more growth and investment, and additional returns on that investment will be achieved as they dive further into different datasets and embrace ever-improving analytic capabilities. That’s why Dell has assembled a broad set of solutions spanning software, hardware and services to help companies of all sizes leverage data and information to make better, faster and more informed decisions.” - Darin Bartik, executive director, product management, information management, Dell Software

About the Survey

Dell Software commissioned Competitive Edge Research to survey 300 IT decision makers in midmarket organizations across the globe. Respondent were made up of a cross-section of director-, manager-, vice president- or C-level executives, with a mixture of both IT and line of business roles. Midmarket was defined as organizations have between 2,000 and 5,000 employees. The survey took place in November 2013 across the United State, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions. Both the private and public sectors were interviewedi.

Dell wins Vcare India Call Centre IT infrastructure and support contract

Dell, leading end-to-end technology solutions provider announced its successful customer win of Vcare India Call Centre. Dell’s solutions will provide an agile infrastructure to enable growth and scalability for Vcare.

Vcare India Call Centre had a huge server sprawl with various life cycle stages and desktop converted servers which were not reliable. This was one of the key drivers for Vcare to implement Dell’s industry leading scalable and reliable solutions to maximize business responsiveness and eliminate system downtime. Vcare was also looking for more agile infrastructure that could scale based on their growing business needs, prompting the company to opt for Dell’s end-to-end solutions that would allow them to design and run their workloads on virtual infrastructure.

Dell’s right solution approach coupled with customer support and workshops helped Vcare understand the benefits of Dell solutions - Dell Equal logic PS6510X x 2, PowerEdge M620 along with Force 10 MXL X2, Power Connect 8132F x 2 supplemented  with VMware virtualization for their complete virtual infrastructure. Additionally, Dell also helped Vcare team to enhance their customer experience and to upscale their network to 10G with Dell MXL & Power Connect offerings. Hardware along with end to end implementation services and mission critical pro support plus (Proactive support) support SLA distinguished Dell from Competition.

Vcare had a heterogeneous environment and were not able to meet the SLA’s as they were managing their backups using Scripts and Open Source. Due to the excess amount of manual work required, they were out the productivity. Dell helped them to reduce their backup window using Dell DR4100 and NVBU and more importantly showed Dell’s capability around MySQL expertise.
“We are able to respond to the needs of the business faster with the scalability offered by the Dell solutions. Being one of the BPO solutions provider, we look at a cost effective IT implementation which will help us scale up our operations as and when we require and we hope Dell’s solutions will help us achieve this goal.” Mr. Sushil Singh –Team IT, Vcare Call Center

“Dell is dedicated to becoming the easiest technology company to do business with, connecting in meaningful ways with the customers we serve to help them achieve their full potential. The end to end products and services we are implementing for Vcare will help them improve business responsiveness and agility. Our ability to engage with customers at all levels, understand their needs and become their trusted consultant enables us to build confidence and builds a huge competitive advantage in the market. Regular technical knowledge sharing workshops with Vcare also helped build mindshare and greater understanding of our products and services.” Ajay Kaul, Head – North Geo and Channel Head, Dell India

Dell’s heritage of listening to and engaging with customers has made it an easy choice for customers. Even as technology has evolved Dell’s focus on the end-to-end customer experience has ensured that our customers are able to access our reliable expertise at any time and from anywhere.

Dell Advances Data Center Networking Fabrics and Control for SDN, NFV and Cloud Solutions
Dell today announced new networking solutions to help customers deliver faster results, maximize efficiency and modernize and transform operations in scale-out and cloud-based environments. New products introduced include the Dell Networking Z9500, an energy-efficient, highest density per rack unit, and only pay-as-you grow 10/40 GbE data center core switch available today.

The new Active Fabric Controller and efforts to accelerate Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions into the sector through industry consortiums and collaboration with industry partners such as Red Hat also can help customers transform and modernize data center infrastructures.

Dell is helping customers upgrade data center network architectures to meet new demands imposed by virtualization, changing traffic patterns, and the nature of today’s workload needs including cloud-based and “as-a-service” offerings. By using standards-based technologies, Dell delivers architectures that help advance legacy systems, prevent vendor lock-in penalties, and future proof infrastructure for an easier transition to software-defined networking (SDN), cloud-based services and emerging technology approaches such as NFV.

According to S. The platform can be deployed 7 times faster with the aid of fabric managers and quick mounting rails; while pay-as-you-use pricing model allows our customers to accelerate new technology adoption and upgrades on the fly. Dell’s Fabric and Control innovation has addressed multiple CIO priorities over the past 3 years be it Big Chassis limitations, New workload network demands, Software Defined Networking Choices and Automation or Decoupling of Networking hardware by supporting third party Operating Systems. With this launch, Dell significantly strengthens our Converged Infrastructure lineup of solutions”

“With the addition of these new products in Dell’s networking portfolio, we are excited to extend our leadership in Fabric Ergonomics, Network Function Virtualization, Software defined networking and advanced new architectures that will change the game in networking", said Amandeep Singh, Country Manager, Networking, Dell India "Dell's understanding in these areas with its strong emphasis on a standards based approach, will be strongly evident in these new networking products."

New Cloud-Based Healthcare Solution from Dell

New Cloud-Based Healthcare Solution from Dell
Dell Services today unveiled a cloud-based solution that seamlessly and cost effectively delivers integrated clinical and financial systems for healthcare providers in India. This is a highly scalable, widely accessible and flexible solution to suit the unique needs of Indian healthcare providers.
Targeted at midsized hospitals, large hospital chains and clinic networks, the solution ensures that providers have instant access to uniform workflows and customized reports across entities and geographies. Through a centralized approach, the solution gives healthcare providers the ability to adopt automated workflows and business processes using a single-instance application, reducing operational complexity and dependencies on paper records. This not only prevents manual errors and time delays, but will also enhance decision making and improve the patient experience.

With this solution, end-users (physicians, nurses and back office staff) can access cloud-based applications and reports through the use of a simple conventional browser. The solution also allows users to remain connected via smart phones and other hand-held devices, ensuring secure and anytime, anywhere access to information.

Commenting on the role of cloud in enabling better healthcare outcomes, Dr. Ashwin Naik, Founder and CEO, Vaatsalya, India's first hospital network focused on Tier II and Tier III towns said, “The healthcare industry in India is increasingly turning to IT adoption to improve patient outcomes. As hospitals and providers expand their operations with new referral centers, facilities, and acquisitions in new geographies, the need to access, integrate and connect these disparate systems is gaining importance. Cloud-based technology has the potential to addresses most of the IT-related issues -- access to the right information at the right time and operational efficiency, among others. More importantly it is affordable, scalable and flexible.”
Dell is collaborating with Ubq Technologies and Ramco Systems to deliver an end-to-end proposition to providers. Ubq's Hospital Information System (HIS) solution, medics, will serve as the front-end application for patient-centric activities and will integrate with Ramco ERP on Cloud to provide customers seamless enterprise-wide application on the cloud.

Delivered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, the solution allows healthcare providers to quickly respond to increasing demands of infrastructure and storage, and train staff without huge capital investments and recurrent readiness costs.

“There is a seismic shift happening in the global healthcare industry. The overarching trend is to integrate and move information to the right person or system at the right time — whether it's a provider's staff, external service provider, or the consumer (patient or prospect),”said Sudhanshu Bhandari, Senior Analyst, Forrester Research. “The ability to create an information infrastructure that brings together the micro level of personalized health and the macro level of epidemiologic mappings to institutional quality and evidence-based practices will be a key differentiator for healthcare providers in future. Cloud-based end-to-end business services would help healthcare companies jump start these business initiatives and collaborate with global peer institutions. However, the Indian healthcare market is still very cost competitive and more maturity is needed to effectively leverage cloud-based solutions.”

“We are extending Dell’s proven capabilities and global healthcare leadership to India and have brought in the best-of-breed combination of HIS and ERP to help providers achieve their goal of providing efficient, information-driven healthcare in an affordable way. We will continue to bring to India unique solutions that will allow healthcare providers to focus on their number one goal-- enhanced patient care,” said Sid Nair, vice president and global general manager, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Dell Services. “The solution is truly one of a kind in terms of its capabilities, delivery model and pricing. We believe that this will be a game changer for the Indian healthcare industry, where hospitals are constrained by huge upfront capital investments, and higher cost of licensing, maintenance and support.”

This solution is available today in India and is an integral part of Dell’s vision of building future-ready IT platforms to provide cutting-edge technology and services that enable innovation in Health IT. The cloud-based solution also extends Dell’s Cloud strategy of providing choice and flexibility to customers to drive tangible business results through cloud computing.
