Notwithstanding Rs.14,300 crore in tax notice for capital gains from IT department for Vodafone International Holdings BV’s $11 billion acquisition of Hutchison Whampoa’s India telecom business in 2007  country's second largest telecom operator Vodafone has  said it will invest Rs 6,000 crore for capacity augmentation and new business initiatives in the state of Maharashtra.Rs 6,000 crore will be used to upgrade its high end technology centre in Pune, setting up a Tier-4 data centre in Airoli, near Mumbai and  setting-up of a payment bank with headquarter in Mumbai.“At Vodafone, we are enthused with the Government’s vision of Digital India and Make in India and are keen to be a partner in its delivery. Vodafone India serves over 194 million citizens, of which almost 100 million are from rural areas. We remain deeply invested in and committed to Maharashtra and are pleased to announce our enhanced investments in the state,” said Sunil Sood, Vodafone India's Managing Director & CEO.

As part of its commitment to the national movement ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, Vodafone partnered with Educate Girls, (an NGO that focuses on enrolling, retaining and improving the learning outcomes of young girls aged 6-14 years) and raised  Rs. 4.5 crore through several initiatives to support the education of over 120,000 out-of-school girls. These young girls hail from Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Ajmer, Bundi and Rajsamand districts in Rajasthan.

#Vodafone's Delhi Circle receives the DSCI Privacy Certification

Data Security Council of India (DSCI), the focal body on data protection in India announced that it has certified Vodafone India Limited (VIL) – Delhi Circle,  one of the leading telecom  companies as a ‘DSCI Privacy Certified’ (DPC©) organization. This certification follows VIL’s efforts in building a data privacy program and implementing privacy practices to fulfill its commitment towards privacy and protecting personal information of individuals. VIL is the first telecom organization in India to have been granted this certification by DSCI.

The assessment of data privacy program implementation at Vodafone-Delhi Circle, in line with the requirements of DSCI Privacy Framework (DPF©) and DSCI Assessment Framework for Privacy (DAF-P©), was conducted by DNV GL; a DSCI authorized Assessment Organization (AO). The certificate was awarded by Prof. Balakrishnan, Chairman, DSCI during a ceremony, organized on the sidelines of DSCI Best Practices Meet, on July 10, 2014.

#Vodafone India Unveils network operations centre in Pune

Vodafone India Ltd unveiled a first-of-its-kind Super Network Operations Centre (SNOC) and Super Network Experience Centre (SNEC) in Pune today.
The uniquely designed SNOC provides an insight into the workings of Vodafone’s 120,000+ sites that enable network coverage across 22 circles remotely under one roof. Spread across 40,000 sq. feet with a housing capacity of 600, the SNOC is equipped with ultramodern amenities such as CO2 monitoring system, specialized photo-hydro ionization (PHI) cells with modern access control and energy efficient fixtures.
Speaking about the benefits of SNOC, Vishant  Vora, Director –Technology, Vodafone India said “SNOC is a realization of Vodafone India’s vision to create a world class facility that sets apart its technology capabilities. Piramal Enterprises to make Rs 3036 Cr profit as it exits Vodafone India

Piramal Enterprises Ltd. (“Piramal”, NSE: PEL, BSE: 500302) today announced that it has agreed to divest its entire equity stake, comprising 45,425,328 shares (~11%), in Vodafone India Limited to Prime Metals Ltd., an indirect subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc, for a total consideration of Rs. 8,900 Cr, valuing the shares of Vodafone India Ltd. at Rs. 1,960 per share.
 Piramal had acquired these shares at an average price of Rs. 1,290 per share for a total consideration of Rs. 5,864 Cr in two tranches during FY12.
 “The equity purchase in Vodafone was consistent with our objective of making investments that offer opportunity to generate attractive long term return on equity” says Ajay Piramal, Chairman, Piramal Group, “I am glad to say that we have delivered against our targeted returns with this investment”.
