BIOGRAPHIES OF FEATURED ARTISTS:
Sebastiao Salgado
Born in 1944, Sebastiao Salgado has earned himself the recognition of being one of the most famous photojournalists today. His inspiring photographs include Sahara (Algeria-2009) and Dinka Cattle Camp (Southern Sudan-2006). In 2004 he initiated a project called Genesis aimed at presenting the unblemished faces of nature and humanity. The project consists of a series of photographs of landscapes, wildlife, as well as human communities that continue to live in accordance with their ancestral traditions and cultures. This body of work is conceived to be a potential path to humanity’s rediscovery of itself in nature.

Henri Cartier – Bresson,
Cartier-Bresson was born in 1908 in France and is revered as a pioneer in modern photojournalism. He wandered around the world with his camera, becoming totally immersed in his current environment. He is considered as one of the major artists of the 20th century, having covered many of the world biggest events.

Andreas Gursky
Born in Leipzig, Germany in 1955 Andreas Gursky grew up in Düsseldorf, the only child of a successful commercial photographer. Having learnt the tricks of the trade before he finished high school, Andreas Gursky is best known for his large-scale colour photographs that explore and reflect the effect of capitalism and globalization on contemporary life. Gursky takes his inspiration from a wide range of sources and his photographs are often altered digitally before printing.

Michel Dubois
Dubois has been a still-life photographer since 1980, a field in which he can express the interest he has in light and its diverse variations. Photographing still objects allows him to subtly research permanence and the hidden side of inanimate things. In the late 80s, discovering the 19th century masters leads him to focus on old methods and the reproduction of their textures and emotions using modern techniques. In 1989, thanks to this approach, Michel Dubois published “Tea Time” (l’Heure du Thé), a book that covers the different styles of photography from 1880 to 1930 on the theme of tea ceremonies.

Kelly Brbich
Kelly Brbich, originally from New Zealand but currently based in Dubai since 2012, has over 10 years experience in the photography industry. Kelly’s projects have taken her around the world to places such as USA, South Korea, UK and Australia. Her artwork demonstrates her passion for travel and culture, which she is consistently exploring to nurture her natural ability to view the world from a different angle. Kelly expresses her devotion in seeking inspiration through art, fashion and people. Her international life has influenced her to always think outside the box uncovering unique composition, contrast and colours.

The exhibition "Flash Back on Photography" runs from 20th February to 11th March 2013 at Pro Art Gallery, Dubai. The opening reception will be on Wednesday 20th February, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
