Pro Art Gallery, the gallery that celebrates innovative art and collectibles, announced that is holding an exhibition titled ‘ Prints & Multiples’, at the Pro Art Gallery located at Palm Strip Shopping Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road, Jumeirah 1. The exhibition, which will open at 7pm on April 24th, 2013, will showcase the artworks of over 30 international artists and will focus attention on the impulse of printmaking and features works which are opinionated and fun. The exhibition will run from April 24 to May 11, 2013.
Pro Art Gallery has been building an impressive collection and this exhibition offers collectors and art connoisseurs an opportunity to view these master pieces since the gallery acquired them. The exhibition is divided into four distinct styles: Classic, Contemporary, Urban Art and Chinese Art, and explores the development of prints and multiples from the classic to the current day, tracking the rise of an art form that lies at the core of contemporary art practice.
Until the 1960s prints and multiples had primarily been viewed as an adjunct activity to the more ‘important’ mediums such as painting and sculpture. However there was a major shift in the hierarchy, following the development of Pop art in the 1960s and the experimentation with process and institutional critique that came with it.
The diversity in art is evident in the range of works that are on display by some of the most influential Artists of the 20th century. Editions features Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein , Sir Peter Blake, Damien Hirst, Raza, Victor Vasarely, Takashi Murakami, signed prints by Alberto Giacometti, limited editions by Julian Opie, prints by Chinese artists Yue Minjun and Zhang Xiaogang , works by the legendary Street Artists Banksy and Blek Le Rat, and the more recent Mr.Brainwash. The great Masters are also on show by way of Dali, Braque, Picasso, Buffet and Chagall.
Tatiana Faure, Director of Pro Art Gallery explains, “Mainstream acceptance of the print market has never been stronger judging from recent prints and multiples auctions.
Prints and multiples are not only finding their true value but are also democratizing the art market. Most people associate the high-end art market with multi-million dollar auctions and eight figure acquisitions that make national headlines. But entry level buyers and collectors have been rushing in recent years to this more affordable side of the art market that offers investors the chance to get into art and buy a big name. In other words this exhibition is a celebration of how far the prints and multiples activity has come. "
