The three-day International Conference on Recent Advances in Obstetrics & Gynaecology concluded today at Hyderabad International Convention Centre. Organized by FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric Gynaecological Societies of India) and OGSH (Obstetric & Gynaecological Society of Hyderabad) the conference was aimed at curbing social discrimination against the girl child in India.
The FIGO Conference saw a host of VIPs, dignitaries, eminent doctors and delegates visiting the event during the three days. The valedictory and awards function on the last day was presided over by Dr. Shantha Kumari, Organizing Secretary, Vice – President, FOGSI 2013. Dr. C.N. Purandare-org. Chair-Conference President Elect FIGO, Prof. Sir S. Arulkumaran Patron- Conference President- FIGO. With more than 1500 delegates along with 40 international faculties from UK, Kenya, Italy, Mexico, USA, Egypt, Spain etc attended the event making the conference a huge success.
The conference encapsulated panel discussions & workshops by eminent doctors and delegates from the fraternity on significant subjects such as fetal surveillance – for intact survival and a innovations & implementation, non-communicable diseases and safe motherhood on the first day, followed by Urogynaecology, tackling haemorrhage -sparing the uterus, ovulation induction and cancer .
On the final day subject focused on caesarean section, tumour talk, women’s health in the 21st century, Oncology and enhancing fertility and much more. The conference had a series of experts from different fields throwing light on the status of women and girl children in India.
A series of panel discussions, sessions and workshops during the conference were organized with an aim to create awareness among people from different races, cultures, backgrounds and community at large about the importance of saving a girl child and declining sex ratio in India and its negative impact on the society.
Commenting on the same, Dr. Shantha Kumari, Organizing Secretary, Vice – President, FOGSI, 2013 said, “Conferences are the best means of exchanging ideas and discussing issues.Taking into account the discrimination against women and a girl child from the earliest stages and throughout, it has certainly become a national concern and we aim to discuss it in the next two days. Encouraging solutions were discussed to reduce the discrimination to a large extent in India. This conference has served as a platform for many important doctors & delegates to come out with possible solutions and thoughts on the subject, considering practical difficulties.”
She further added, “I am extremely pleased with the response we have received for the conference. We had more than 1500 International & National delegates attending the three day conference. This gives us the vision and confidence to go ahead and conduct this prestigious International Conference of FIGO in Hyderabad. I believe and know that a day will come when India will be on par with the developed countries in medicine and world-class healthcare facilities and in all other aspects.”
