The Indian Dental Association - a 68 year old National body representing Dentist across India – is hosting its 67th INDIAN DENTAL CONFERENCE with the theme - “Together towards Dental Excellence”, from February 21st to 23rd at Hyderabad at HITEX. Shri Prabhakar Reddy, I.A.S, formally inaugurated the annual conference, in the presence of Dr. Pramod Gurav, President, IDA - H.O.; Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Sec. Gen., IDA - H.O.; Dr. T. Jayasimha Reddy, President, IDA – A.P. State; Dr. K. Ajay Banarji, Hon. Sec., IDA – A.P. State; Dr. Deepak Makhijani, Conference Secretary; Dr. P. Karunakar, Organizing Secretary; Dr. L. Krishna Prasad, Chairman, Organizing Committee, 67th IDC; Dr A. Srikanth, Secretary IDA, Hyderabad; Dr Veerendranath, President IDA, Hyderabad; Dr P.Padma Reddy, Convenor and Dr BV Ramana Reddy, Treasurer, IDC. This prestigious conference is coming back to Hyderabad after a gap of eight years.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Prabhakar Reddy, IAS, said, Indians have always been conscious of oral and dental health, they took utmost care by adopting habits of oral hygiene, regular dental cleaning etc. However in the past there were no professional dental doctors and the population was dependant on quacks. Today with the dental doctors reaching out to the public to even remote areas and establishing their clinics in cities and towns, the status of oral healthcare of people is in safe hands. Public awareness programs by IDA have helped in raising awareness about dental and oral health tremendously in the recent years and public are more conscious about dental and oral hygiene today. He wished the delegates a enriching experience from the conference.
Dr. Pramod Gurav, President IDA said This conference will share cutting edge research and technology. The constantly changing technology and patient empowerment necessitate regular updating of our knowledge to render better patient care. Dr. L. Krishna Prasad, Chairman, Organizing Committee, 67th IDC; said by far this could be the biggest IDA conference with large delegate participation. He said around 70 Indian faculty and 10 foreign faculty are attending the conference and 800 free papers are being presented here.
Eight eminent speakers from abroad and over 60 renowned faculty from all over India will share their valuable experience and knowledge with over 4000 delegates attending the conference from India and abroad. About 500 students, postgraduates, practitioners and faculty are presenting scientific papers and around 200 scientific posters. The Conference will focus on the latest advances and updates related to dentistry, scientific ideas pertaining to the emerging challenges in oral health, like the increased incidence of Oral Cancers in the recent years besides several other topics.
We are utilizing this platform as a comprehensive approach for promoting a high level interchange of scientific ideas pertaining to the emerging challenges in oral health. An Oral Cancer workshop with eminent researchers in the field of Oral Cancers is being organized at this conference to delve into the increased incidence of Oral Cancers in the recent years and ways to focus upon prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. The conference will also focus on overall empowerment and approach towards encountering oral diseases in India by developing certain Oral Health policies in association with the various Government bodies like Ministry of Health & Family welfare, professional specialty association bodies, and other service organizations.
As a part of our multifaceted approach with a scientific basis for encountering the Oral health problems, we are joined by the Asian Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists (ASOMP) for the first time in India, in organizing their international meet, which is mainly focusing on the early diagnosis and intervention of Pre-cancers and preventing them from transforming into cancers.

With more than three hundred branches spread all over the country, and more than 30,000 members, the Indian Dental Association has been striving hard since its inception, to improve the oral health status of Indian population. Apart from the academic activities, various programs related to public awareness, oral health awareness and also free dental check-up and treatment camps have been the main stay of the association.
