Ranjana Saikia, Director, Educating Youth for Sustainable Development, TERI, said, “As Project SEARCH enters the sixth phase, we plan to promote teacher leadership in our member schools in a big way. We also want to work closely with schools to incubate small scale green businesses that will be completely run and managed by the students. It is important to educate the youth about the economic opportunities that environment provides. The unwavering and long standing commitment of Tetra Pak towards educating young minds is our biggest source of strength and keeps us aiming for the sky.”

Tetra Pak South Asia Markets Communications Director Jaideep Gokhale said, “Project SEARCH entering its sixth year is an important milestone for us at Tetra Pak. We are extremely proud to see the conviction of the students, teachers and the larger community towards this initiative. Their dedication and support is an indication of the importance of initiatives such as these. With the launch of the sixth phase, we are determined to create more ‘Green Agents of Change’ who will inspire and influence others.”

Launched in 2009, Project SEARCH has strengthened its presence in seven key locations in India including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Goa. Reaching out to over 2,50,000 students and teachers, the initiative helps educational institutes set up collection centres for the collection of dry waste, recyclables and used Tetra Pak cartons. The cartons, being 100% recyclable, are sent to recycling centres where they are converted into useful products such as furniture and stationery.

Project SEARCH encourages young students and teachers to practice the 4Rs – refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle – in their daily lives and make consumption choices that would ensure the sustainability of the planet in the years to come.
