#CII Interactive Session with students in #Bangalore

CII-Indian Women Network (IWN) organized an Interactive Session on ‘Managing and Branding your Presence’ for the Final Year and PG students of Garden City College today. The interactive Session discussed the importance of personal branding in an increasingly connected world. Citing real world examples, deliberations at the interactive session gave the students a unique insight on as to how they can manage and use their brand presence in a positive way to further career growth and overall personality development, thereby encouraging and motivating them for future challenges.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Geetha Panda, Co-Convener-Learning & Development, CII-IWN & Director GSD India & Malaysia Hewlett Packard, said that everybody has a reputation, a personality brand whether one wants it or not and every action or lack of action goes towards the creation of one’s brand. She added that the key to developing ones brand lay in figuring out ‘who you are’, identifying ‘who needs to know’ and understanding ‘why should they care’.

Ms. Anupama Bijur, Resident Editor, Magna Publications Co. Ltd. said that often people tend to think of brands as products, however people are also brands and it is important to recognize the qualities in you, for which a process of self discovery is necessary. She added that realizing who you are, developing qualities in yourself and projecting it are important steps in promoting brand you. According to her managing yourself is like managing a company which is hard work. She urged students to be honest in their appearance asking them not only to look the part but it as well.  

Ms. Rini Datta, Entrepreneur, IndiaEdge-Advisors, said that a brand is simply, a person’s gut feel about a person, a product, a service or a company. Brands are powerful because it helps people navigate multiple choices, it provides reassurance about their decisions and often offers emotional engagement. She explained,  how earlier personal branding used to be confined to monarchs like Cleopatra or Emperor Ashok etc…,  but now it’s for everyone, a corporate executive, a design guru, an entrepreneur or even a sales associate. Social media has made the world a stage and competition is fierce. She emphasized on importance of social media for building a brand.

Ms Priya Chetty Rajagopal, Convener –Learning and Development, CII-IWN & Executive Director, RGF Executive Search, set the tone for the discussion saying that the theme for the interactive session was ideal for a young audience looking to embark on a career. She said that today in a highly connected world personal and professional presence are defining factors as to how the world perceives you.

Mr. Bhupendra Khanal, Chief Executive Officer, Simplify 360 Inc. encouraged to students to be authentic and not try be someone else. He said that too often people waste a lot of time trying to be who they are not.

The interactive session also wide participation from the students, who posed several interesting questions to the panelists on a range of topics related to branding and online presence.
