Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced it was awarded "Best VoLTE Product" for its end-to-end (E2E) voice and video over LTE (V2oLTE) solution and “Most Innovative Virtualised IMS Solution" for its Cloud IMS solution at the 2014 IMS World Forum in Barcelona, Spain. The awards recognize Huawei's dedication and contributions to LTE deployment globally, emphasizing Huawei's leadership in the V2oLTE industry, in addition to its steady and significant progress in the design and execution of its core network virtualization strategy.
Huawei’s E2E V2oLTE solution spans the entire mobile voice and video communication evolution journey and is a natural progression from current legacy circuit switched-based networks to the target Cloud-based VoLTE (IMS) networks. During this evolution, operators will enhance the user experience with features such as Single Radio Voice call Continuity (eSRVCC) for seamless voice handover from 4G to 3G coverage, as well as High Definition (HD) voice and video, Rich Communication Suite (RSC), and convergent conference and business Unified Communications (UC). In addition to saving spectrum as a result of VoLTE spectrum efficiency, operators will be able to further monetize VoLTE through the use of Communications as a Service (CaaS) which opens network communication capabilities on the network and terminal sides to facilitate the expansion of their user bases and enable improved third-party services.
To date, Huawei’s E2E V2oLTE solution has been deployed in more than 40 networks in the Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) phase and is currently being deployed in more than 21 networks in the VoLTE phase (IMS-based). Commercial deployment of Cloud-based VoLTE will happen this year as Huawei is one of the few vendors to pass the Proof of Concept (PoC) stage with several Tier-1 operators in Europe. Additionally, the first CaaS project with China Telecom has been successfully deployed, reducing the time-to-market for new services to one month.
"Huawei is honored to receive this award for Best VoLTE product as it recognizes both our success in the market and our contributions to the global telecommunications industry," said Mrs. Yumin Mao, Vice President, Huawei Core Network Business Unit. "Our solution is committed to helping operators transform their current mobile communications networks simply, and to enhance the user experience while monetizing these new network capabilities."
Huawei Cloud IMS Solution
Huawei's Cloud IMS solution supports services for Huawei’s FusionEngine off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and standard third-party hardware. It runs on Huawei’s FusionSphere Cloud OS Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) with virtualized applications to realize different network functionalities with varying software functions.
The solution enables the decoupling of hardware from software in order to allocate resources on-demand, scale core logical elements dynamically with traffic fluctuations, and shorten the time-to-market for new services. In addition, it satisfies the special requirements for telecom networks, such as real-time, high reliability, high performance, and high security. The solution also supports standard Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) architecture and OpenStack, adapts to multiple IaaS/Virtual Machine/hardware, and fully inherits legacy OM with full orchestration.
The main differentiator of this solution is its carrier-grade capabilities, such as 99.999% reliability, abundant high availability (HA) mechanisms, sub-health detection, and resource monitoring. The solution also provides cross-platform support to help carriers get the most out of their investment. For example, carriers will be able to deploy COTS equipment along with an existing ATCA architecture.
By the end of Q1 2014, Huawei and a number of leading global carriers had jointly carried out demonstrations of virtualized core network to successfully achieve proof of concept (PoC) testing. At Mobile World Congress 2014, Huawei successfully demonstrated a cloud IMS VoLTE call under Management and Orchestration (MANO) together with Telefonica and China Mobile.
Hosted by Informa, the IMS World Forum has considerable influence in the industry and the awards presented to Huawei show widespread recognition from the industry's leading operators, analysts and media. Informa is the largest publicly-owned organizer of exhibitions and events in the world and its portfolio of must-attend events has set the industry standard for over 20 years.
