LOCAL LION INSTALLED AS DISTRICT GOVERNOR UNVEILS HIS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

Lion S. Ramachandran of Bangalore - District Governor was installed as a District Governor during a ceremony held on 8thJuly, 2011 at 94th Lions Clubs International Convention in Seattle, Washington, USA. For one year he will oversee 95 lions clubs made up of 3200 Lions members spread over the Revenue Districts of Bangalore, Kolar, and Chikkaballapur in Karnataka and Chittor District in Andhra Pradesh.


Ramachandran an Electronics Engineering graduate, after a remarkable stint of Service with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as Rocket Scientist, is currently working as Vice President in SI2 Microsystems, a MNC.

Lion Ramachandran has been an active member of the Lions Club of Bangalore East for the past 15 years. His Lions district, 324D6, has been at the helm of various service activities amounting to more than Rs. 6 crores during last year.



The District Governor has announced the Annual Service Goals that are to be achieved in the next 12 months in the District. All the major activities of the coming 12 months are focused on education, health and environment with a thrust to develop Vocational Training Centers in backward areas.

Here is a Glance at Lions District 324D6 Service initiatives for 2011-12.

Education:

• Set up 20 more Lions Model Computer Training Centers using refurbished Computers under e-Waste to prosperity (currently operates 30 centers)

• School Adoption and support to 33 Rural Government schools

• 100 Scholarships to economically backward students for professional courses.

Health:

• 10,000 Free Cataract Operations

• Vision Care for 3 lakh school children

• Blood donation camps to collect 20000 units of blood.

• Rural Cardiac Care

• Diabetic Awareness camps



Environment:

• Go Green -1,00,000 Tree sapling Plantation

• E-waste and Plastic waste program


Vocational Training:



• Set 40 vocational Training Centers in Backward areas.



The District Cabinet presentation scheduled at 5 pm on Saturday 6th August 2011 at King’ s Court , Bangalore Palace , Palace Grounds , Bangalore will witness the launch of various service activities and will give expression to the commitment and compassion of the Lions clubs to serve the needy and the underprivileged in the communities. The service projects will be formally inaugurated by eminent personalities like Mr. G. Madhavan Nair - Ex. Chairman ISRO, Miss Pooja Gandhi - Cine Artist, Lion V.V. Krishna Reddy –International Director of Lions International and Mr. Indu Srivastha –Principal Conservator of Forests, Karnataka and other civic leaders. The event will include:





• Distribution of computers to Lions Model Computer Training Centers managed by the clubs.

• Scholarships to economically backward students for professional courses.

• Distribution of Sewing machines to underprivileged women trained the vocational centers.

• Wheel Chair Distribution to the Physically challenged

• Artificial limbs to the very needy.

The Lions District 324D6 is one among the 750 Districts of Lions club International, the largest global service organization that has the presence in 206 countries with nearly 1.4 million members in its 47,000 clubs. Over the last 94 years, we were working together and have collectively put in nearly 30 million hours doing voluntary community service to improve the quality of life for less fortunate and economically backward fellow beings of the society.
