Maveric Systems, a leading global independent software testing specialist, has been awarded by NASSCOM, the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT-BPO industries in India, at the NASSCOM Exemplary Talent (NExT) Practices Awards 2011. Maveric Systems has received a Special Recognition Award in the ‘Partnering with Academia’ category. The award was given at the NASSCOM HR Summit held in the city last week.
This is the first edition of the NExT Practices Awards. These awards have been instituted by NASSCOM to recognize and celebrate best practices implemented by IT-BPO companies for employee recruitment/retention, skill upgradation, attrition management, employee engagement, global integration and leadership/career development.
The following are the highlights of Maveric’s activities and initiatives in the realm of industry-academia partnerships:
· In 2003, realizing the strong need for an exclusive course, Maveric (the company has a strong focus on the BFSI sector) partnered Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) to develop a 2-year postgraduate programme with a specialization in Banking and Software Testing, with equal emphasis on theory and work internship. For the programme, the course material on Testing was prepared by Maveric and the company continually shoulders the responsibility of providing teaching faculty for this subject from among its senior practitioners. Maveric sponsors select students for this programme, and upon successful completion of the course, all the students are absorbed by the company.
· Maveric also has a partnership with IIT Madras, wherein IIT Madras helps Maveric further its R&D in Testing through a combination of research projects, consultancy, student sponsorship and joint IP development activities.

Today, 50% of the project leadership talent at Maveric is made up of alumni of the LIBA programme.
Winners of the NExT Practices Awards 2011 have been selected through a two-step process. After an initial screening and shortlisting of nominees, an independent jury has evaluated and helped in the selection of the winners.
