The 49th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava begins

The 49th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava begins with 11 days of pomp, pageantry, music and dance by stalwarts like L Subramaniam, Usha Uthup, S P Balasubramanyam, Mano Murthy, Govinda, Kareena Kapoor, Ramesh Aravind, Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Raghu Dixit.


Organised by Sri Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha, the Utsava will be held from September 1 to 11 at APS and National College Grounds in Basavanagudi. Aromas of Karnataka – the Food Utsav will be an added attraction. Uthup, who was present at the launch of the Utsav, said:

“I have seen the evolution of the Utsav, through my years of association with it. The rich cultural heritage that it showcases breathes life into the glorious past and the rich present.”

An ecstatic Uthup said this would be her third performance at the Utsav and added that it was a sheer honour.

The Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava upholds the rich tradition of culture and heritage that is Karnataka, through magnificent presentations of music, dance, drama and art by some of the finest artistes of the country. The Utsava for the past 4 decades has been a major cultural festival of Bangalore. This year too, BGU will be organized from September 1 – 11, 2011. The motto of BGU is not only to mark the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi but to revisit and revive the cultural heritage that Karnataka is proud of.


“Aromas of Karnataka- the food utsava” is also an integral part of the celebrations. Done in association with Adigas, 200 of the choicest cooks from around the six regions of Karnataka will bring the most delectable cuisines that are native to Karnataka. Each of the cuisine will not only bring on plate the blissful taste, but will also represent a unique heritage and cultural significance. Some of the unique dishes that will be presented at the food utsava are The Gokak Karandatu from Uttara Karanataka, the Jack Fruit Mulaka from Malenadu, the Idiappams from Karavali, the famous Davangere Benne Dosa, Kotte Kadabu, Jack Fruit Kadabu, Maddur Vada among the various mouth watering delicacies that belong to the state of Karnataka.
