ANNA HAZARE IN BENGALURU
Millions of Indians got together in support of Anna Hazare in the demand for Jan Lokpal, an independent
anti corruption agency that can be effective. More than 6 lakh people visited Freedom Park in August 2011 in Bangalore to express their solidarity and joined the nation wide movement with Justice Santosh Hegde and
many noted personalities and organizations and institutions.
The Karnataka Lokayukta has a great reputation as a role model for an independent ombudsmen. Under the
able leadership of Justice Santosh Hegde over the last 5 years, Lokayukta created a new hope among the
citizens of Karnataka that corruption can be checked. The mining report created ripples among the corrupt
across all parties, departments and helped stop the plunder of our national resources. The PDS report
highlighted how corruption is effecting the daily lives of poorest of our society.
“Lokayukta is a real threat to the corrupt and they are now trying to weaken the institution and some even
talk of closing down the Lokayukta! Senior Lokayukta officers are being threatened by so called leaders!
We, the citizens of Karnataka, are not going to watch this systematic attempt to undermine our Lokayukta,
we are organizing a huge public rally on 17th December Saturday to 'Save Lokayukta'” Prithvi Reddy, IAC
Coordinator said. He added that Justice Santosh Hegde, Freedom Fighter Shri H.S.Doreswamy and
prominent citizens will lead the movement and make our collective voice heard by those in power.
In support of this cause, the man who galvanized the entire country, ignited the young generation and
captured the imagination of the world with his call to fight against corruption, Shri Anna Hazare himself will
visit our city. Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Smt Kiran Bedi, Shri Manish Sisodia will accompany him.
Anand Yadwad added that “Shri R. Balasubramaniam (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Mysore), Shri
S.R. Hiremath, Shri Puttannayya from KRSS, Shri Raghavendra Kushtagi of Jana Sangrama Parishat,
respected freedom fighters of All India Freedom Fighters Samiti, Employess of Toyota Kirloskar and many
other organizations and citizens are joining this movement. Public rallies will take place in Mysore,
Gulbarga, Dharwad, Tumukur, Chikballapur and other cities”
Ramanath Hegde updated the media about the ongoing campaign in the city.

Awareness programs in various educational institutes, corporates, parks and public places, walks and bike
