Emerson Climate Technologies (India) Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of Emerson Climate Technologies, today announced that it was introducing Scroll technology in the residential air-conditioning market in India. The Copeland Scroll compressors, used by Air-conditioner manufacturers, are available in the 2-ton (TR) capacity for the split air-conditioning units. With this, the Indian consumer now has access to a world-class compressor that not only saves energy but also provides better comfort and euarsthetic value by virtue of its low noise output and compact design. The Scroll technology has a proven track record worldwide for more than 20 years and has been successfully used in many commercial and institutional applications in India and all over the globe. This is the first time that this technology is now being made available for the home and soft-commercial market. Copeland Scroll compressors are being commenced in the production of ACs by some of the major OEMs in India, such as Blue Star, Carrier, Hitachi, LG and more.
In India, there has been an increasing necessity to bridge the energy demand-and-supply gap. There is an acknowledged energy shortage of eight percent in India all through the year, which increases during peak periods to 11 percent. Globally, four home appliances contribute to 40 percent of the entire energy demand of homes, namely AC, Refrigerator, TV and lighting. Air-Conditioners contribute as one of the major components for peak load. Additionally, the electricity rates in India are going up. The Copeland Scroll compressors powering higher star rated ACs, will provide a much needed relief to the electricity expense of users. The Scroll compressors powering 3, 4 & 5-star ACs, offer energy savings of over 20% over the existing compressors in the lower star rating range. For commercial 2TR users, the Copeland Scroll powered 5-star ACs will be further useful, as the electricity tariff in India is almost double for commercial users as compared to residential in all major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal and Indore. The Scroll compressors provide the 5-Star rated energy efficiency not only today but also in 2014 when the star-labeling standards are expected to be raised.

With India’s contribution to Montreal protocol, India will need to cease the usage of non-ozone friendly refrigerants. Copeland Scroll compressors with R410A Refrigerant will be made available in the India market immediately post the peak buying season this year. Emerson is already working on products with R32 Refrigerant and working towards being ready by end of 2013.
