VIBGYOR High will be inaugurating their second consecutive Model United Nations at its Goregaon campus in Mumbai on Thursday, 28th June 2012. A total of 16 schools from across 3 states will be participating in the four-day conference that will include various knowledge-based seminars and sessions wherein students debate global issues and also develop leadership skills.
At the VIBGYOR High Model United Nations 2012 (VHMUN), students will be placed in eight committees: Security Council; Disarmament and Security Council; North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Social Humanitarian and Cultural; United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; United Nations Environment Programme; Human Rights Commission; and the Press Corps.
Model United Nations are held in many schools and colleges globally. The VHMUN provides a platform for students to discover and discuss important issues such as sponsored terrorism, cyber warfare, child-sex trafficking and euthanasia. It also helps participants gain insights into the complexities of international relations and formulate policies that will affect the world. With position papers, students will be able to articulate a particular country’s stance on a topic.
VIBGYOR High Principal, Shim Mathew said: “VHMUN was extremely successful in its inaugural edition, leading students to a better understanding about the intricacies of diplomacy and negotiations. Besides this, they are also able to appreciate the challenges faced by the world’s leaders, while they are in the process of achieving consensus, and gain the patience required for diplomatic progress. With students receiving such exposure at the junior level, it helps them evolve and discover the difficulties a leader could face in taking a crucial decision on some critical issue.”
