82nd Foundation Day Celebrations of Vijaya Bank
The 82nd Foundation day of Vijaya bank was celebrated amidst joy, fervor and festivity on 22nd October, 2012 at its Head Office and several Regional Offices. To commemorate the anniversary of the bank, various events were organized.

Established on 23rd October, 1931, Vijaya bank has been one of the major nationalized banks in the country clocking several milestones and fuelling nation’s growth. Spearheading a business of Rs. 1, 41,727 crore as on 31st March 2012, the bank has been at the forefront in ushering a new era of growth, consolidation and all round progress.

The foundation day, which marks the completion of 81 glorious years of the organization, started by paying tributes to the founding father, Shri Attavara Balakrishna Shetty and Shri. Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty, the architect of modern Vijaya Bank. The welcome  address was given by Shri K.R. Shenoy, Executive Director, and Shri H.S. Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director, addressed the gathering in a glittering ceremony attended by hundreds of staff members,  customers, RBI and State Government Officials.

As a part of the celebrations, meritorious students of the staff were awarded and a sports meet was also organized. The winners in different categories of sports were felicitated. To apprise the staff and guests about the laudable and historic journey of bank, a short film was played on the occasion.

The foundation day was combined with the excellence awards to eminent personalities who have contributed immensely to the society through their vocation. Dr. B.M. Hegde was honored for his legendary contribution to the society in the field of medicine and administration.

Dr. Mohan Alva was bestowed with a citation for his pioneering attainments in the field of education and culture. Shri Javagal Srinath, renowed national level cricketer and an exemplary sportsman was felicitated for inspiring the younger generations by being a role model.
 
On the occasion, the long standing women customers of the bank were also felicitated. The discerning customers who were honored are Smt. Kusumavathi Shetty, wife of Late Shri. Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty- the Architect of modern Vijaya bank under whose able guidance the bank had taken some path breaking initiatives; Smt. Parvathamma Rajkumar, leading Kannada film producer, distributor, exhibitor and wife of late Dr. Rajkumar, an icon of Kannada cinema and Smt.  Meera Saksena,IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Forest, Ecology & Environment, Govt. of Karnataka.


In an attempt to make people socially conscious of the differently abled people, a cultural programme was presented by Sai Trust, a differently abled group and thereafter a donation was made. Donation was also made to New Ark Mission of India which was received by Sri Raja, founder and General Secretary of the Mission. Sri Raja has been a social crusader for over a decade and has been a helping hand to many destitutes and poor people in Bangalore.

The day long function came to an end with the vote of thanks to the customers and the media.
