At a press conference held today, The Japan Habba Organizing Committee announced that Japan Habba 2013, the popular Indo – Japanese cultural extravaganza, will be held on February 23rd and 24th, 2013 in Bangalore; at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Campus, Bangalore University, Palace Road.
Organized in association with the Japanese Consulate Office in Bangalore, The Japan Foundation New Delhi, Bangalore University, Bangalore Nihongo Kyooshi-kai (Japanese Language Teachers Association, Bangalore), Koyo Japanese Speaking Group and the Japanese Association of Bangalore, the event is also supported by the Indo-Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Karnataka).
The highlight of Japan Habba this year is a special performance of Kyogen, a traditional Japanese comic drama by the Izumi School of Japan, on February 24th, 2013. Kyogen are short folk plays portraying the less complex emotions and everyday experiences of simple personalities in their own language. The Kyogen will be performed by artistes from the renowned Izumi School of Japan, represented by Ms. Miyake Tokuro and Mr. Izumi Motoya. They will be staging the short comic drama Bonsan.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. M.S. Suma, Chairman, Japan Habba Organizing Committee, said, “Japan Habba has been conducted in Bangalore from 2005, and every year it gives the Organizing Committee great pleasure to introduce a new facet of Japanese culture to the Indian audience. This year staging the Kyogen play for the first time in India is a feather in our cap. The programmes lined up for Japan Habba 2013 sees an interesting fusion of Japanese and Indian culture, making it truly a cultural exchange.”
Mr. Yukio Takeyari – Chairman, The Japanese Association of Bangalore, said, “The Japanese people love being in India and experiencing all aspects of Indian culture. We are very happy to support Japan Habba as it perfectly demonstrates the synergy between the two communities and is the best way for both Indians and Japanese to experience each other’s cultures in an informal setting. We wish the Japan Habba Organizing Committee every success in executing a flawless event.”
The Kyogen artistes Ms. Miyake Tokuro and Mr. Izumi Motoya, jointly said, “We are very happy to be a part of Japan Habba 2013. This is a special occasion for us being our first visit to India and we are excited to share our art of Kyogen with the Indian people.”
Besides Kyogen, Japan Habba 2013 will also see screening of Japanese movies, staging of a Japanese play in traditional Yakshagana style, as well the popular story of Tenali Raman told in Japanese Kyogen style.
Other event highlights include, Karaoke contest; Indo-Japan Quiz – open to all visitors; Japanese tea ceremony; Kimono wearing; Demonstrations of Origami; Calligraphy; Plays; Mehendi; Flower Arrangements, Stalls, Food courts and much more.
The events are open to all and entry is free.
