Unisys India today announced the results of Cloud 20/20 Version 4.0, the latest installment of one of India’s largest online technical project contests. The contest recognizes innovative thinking by students across India in addressing the technical challenges of cloud computing.
This year the contest took a slightly different approach from past years. Instead of simply submitting papers, participants were required to put theory into practice. Working in teams of four, supported by project guides from Unisys and their institute, the teams showcased live cloud computing projects.
Following several rigorous rounds of evaluation, including technical project submissions, telephone interviews, and remote project demonstrations via video conference, the first prize was awarded to the project ‘Criminal Investigation Department, Information and Data Analysis System’ presented by Gaurav Kumar, Kumari Shilpi, and their project guide G. Sureshkumar from Pondicherry Central University, Puducherry.
The second prize was awarded to the project ‘Corona – Dynamic Allocation and Deallocation in Cloud Resource Management’ presented by K. P. Vignesh, M. Rishe Kumar, G. Surendran, and their project guide, G. Raja, from J.J. College of Engineering & Technology, Trichy.
This year, the third prize was shared by two teams. The project ‘The Sheep Model for Secure Inter-Cloud Data Migration Using MaaS’ presented by Ramaseshan S., Mohit Jain A., Lalithkumar M., Selvaganesh C., and their project guide, R.G. Suresh Kumar, from Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology, Puducherry shared the third prize with the project ‘Augmenting the Outcomes of SAAS Layer and IAAS Layer in Cloud Environments’ presented by K. Anbukarasi, A. Muganthi, M. Abirami, V. Sasikala, and their project guide, Geetha V. from Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry.
Unisys India will offer the finalist teams employment opportunities within the company, subject to their eligibility and availability within the organization.
Kumar Prabhas, Managing Director, Unisys India, said, “Congratulations to the winners and participants in Unisys Cloud 20/20 Version 4.0. This year we challenged the students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and develop real-world cloud computing solutions. We are delighted and impressed with the range of innovative and practical thinking this year’s contest has inspired in students across the country, as well as with the resulting solutions.”
Building on the momentum that has grown steadily over the life of the contest, Unisys received more than 5,200 registrations from approximately 1,000 prominent colleges across the country this year. This represents a 63 percent increase over the 3,200 registrations received in version 3.0 of the contest.
Educational institutions whose students submitted entries include the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), International Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other leading engineering colleges.
Students contributed groundbreaking ideas to address cloud-computing issues such as automation, virtualization, application development, security, moving workloads from datacenters to the cloud, consumerization of IT, and more.
Bob Supnik, Vice President, Engineering and Supply Chain, Unisys, said, “Cloud 20/20 provides students a unique opportunity to build market-ready skills by developing potentially game-changing solutions for cloud computing. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of leaders to think differently about how cloud computing technology can be used to transform businesses.”
