Breakthrough, a global human rights organization that uses the power of media, pop culture, and community mobilization, launched the Karnataka leg of its much acclaimed “Ring The Bell - One Million Men, One Million Promise” global campaign.

A bloggers meet was conducted at Bangalore in association with IndiBlogger.in and over 150 ….. participants pledged to share ideas, develop new partnerships and raise their voice on issue related to women’s rights and inspire a million promises. The innovative and award winning Bell Bajao (Ring The Bell) global presentation brought together bloggers from variety of fields like media, poetry, story, travelogues, technology, sports, foodies, humour, and fashion etc. on single platform.

Over the last decade, Ring the Bell has become a clarion call urging men and boys to take a stand against domestic violence,” said Sonali Khan, Country Director, of Breakthrough, “Through our partnerships with government agencies like the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the entertainment industry, the United Nations and community based groups, Breakthrough has touched the lives of more than 240 million people across India. Breakthrough has been working extensively in Karnataka through the community, training women on gender rights, human rights and Para-legal services. The Blogger meets serve as novel step to spread ‘Ring The Bell’ message across India using the social media platform.”

Anoop Johnson, Director – Marketing, IndiBlogger.in said, “The plan for IndiChange.org is to create a single location where one can find the latest and most popular blogpost by Indian bloggers about any social cause and not only about the social campaigns initiated by IndiChange.org. Our aim is to provide a platform to share experience, give insight and generate awareness on all social grievances in our country at the ground level.”

Highlight of the day was thought provoking play “Durga’ scripted by Breakthrough’s Karnataka Programme Manager Vani Perioidi. After the performance, Breakthrough and Indiblogger.in teams facilitated discussions on gender and domestic violence, while the bloggers shared their experiences and tweeple sent out their pledges - live.

Breakthrough has been working extensively in Karnataka through the community, training women on gender rights, human rights and Para-legal services. The Blogger’s meet is a step ahead in spreading the message to the interiors of Karnataka and to advocate for more effective implementation of Protection of Women against Domestic Violence Act, PWDVA 2005.

IndiBlogger.in has hosted over 70 blogger meets across the country in the last 5 years. These blogger meets are informal events where bloggers connect with other bloggers on-ground. Most bloggers know each other through blogs and have even become friends but often they do not get to meet. IndiBlogger.in meets gives them an opportunity to put a face to the name.
