The fifth edition of Maruti Suzuki’s annual hunt for India’s safest driver has entered its second lap. Over 2500 youth from across India now compete for a place in the final 25 of the Maruti Suzuki - Autocar Young Driver Contest, 2013. The contestants are judged on their driving skills and accuracy. The winner adjudged as ‘India’s Safest Driver’, will take home a brand new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and also become Maruti Suzuki’s ambassador of safe driving to promote safe driving among the country’s youth.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s automobile market leader has been instrumental in promoting safe driving habits amongst youth. The Company has set up over 280 Maruti Driving Schools (MDS) and 6 IDTRs to train and impart safe driving habits.
"Maruti Suzuki has led the industry to promote safe driving and road safety for over a decade. Through the Young Driver Contest we engage with the youth; the key drivers of change in the society. The younger participant, while learning the nuances of responsible and safe driving, also helps to drive the message of road safety across their peer groups”, says Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
The Maruti Suzuki Young Driver contest is one such initiative. This year over 49800 registrations were received of which 2500 youth qualified for the round 2 after taking the online test on driving skills.
In the second round the contestants have to take up a written test followed by a driving test at one of the 148 Maruti Driving Schools across 42 cities. The second round will culminate of 28th July 2013. Top 25 contestants will be shortlisted from the second round. They will then compete at the Grand Finale to be held at IDTR campus at Sarai Kale Khan, in New Delhi. These finalists will be evaluated by a team of instructors from IDTR and judges from Autocar India. Candidates will be evaluated on 20 parameters pertaining to safety, vehicle control, theory knowledge and its application while driving.
