KLM now has more than Four Million Facebook Fans!
The number of fans welcomed to KLM’s Facebook page passed the 4 million mark yesterday at 22:19 hours. This figure matches the number of people living in a city the size of Melbourne. On 1 February 2012, the page had 1 million fans and, in September of the same year, this number had doubled to 2 million. Now, in just under a year, the number of Facebook fans has doubled again. Since the end of June, KLM also has more followers on Facebook than any other airline.

Following the ash cloud in 2010, Facebook has been used structurally as one of our social media channels inviting travel-related questions from customers in nine different languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On average, 95 social media service agents handle around 25,000 posts and tweets a week on Facebook and Twitter.

In addition to serving as a service channel, Facebook is also used to generate interaction with fans. Fans can count on a daily post: a (historic) photo, an interesting snippet about KLM, a hook and, every so often, a new campaign. Fans can also share their experiences or send in photos.
