David D'souza marks a spot for himself for the World Golfers Championship
Four days of intense competition at the Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival saw some of the top amateur golfers from India, teeing off at the impeccably maintained KGA, one of South Asia's best golf courses. With close to 450 amateur golfers competing for a spot at the World Golfers Championship, this was South India's largest amateur event at a single venue. With support from the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka for the 5th consecutive year and powered by Mantri Developers, the Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival aims to promote the state as a premier golf tourism destination.

The team to participate in the World Golfers Championships in Durban, South Africa was selected on the basis of the best scores in each of 5 handicap categories over the four days at the KGA, Bangalore In the 0-5 Handicap category, 2012 Duke of Edinburgh Cup Winner and member of the team that represented India at the World Golfers Championship, David D'Souza sealed his spot with an impressive Score of 37 points on Day One of the tournament.  Joining D'souza from the 6-10 Handicap category, will be Utpal Desai, who was a previous entrant to the World Golfers' Championship in 2010, scored 37 points on day one. Balasabrumanya R in the 11-15 category with 42 points on day one, Sudhir Krishnaswamy with  41 points in the 16-20 category and Rajiv Sethi from the 21-24 category with 38 points completes the team of five that will travel to the prestigious World Golfers Championships at Cotswold Down Golf Course, Durban Country Club, Prince's Grant Golf Course and Umhlali Country Club clubs in Durban, South Africa from October 26 to Nov 2nd.

Commenting on the opportunity of representing India on a global platform, David D'Souza said "Well, my first experience at the World Golfers Championship a few years ago was remarkable and it is an amazing to be an ambassador of your country at a global tournament. This year, backed by a great team of enthusiastic players, I am really hoping that each one of us, individually and as a team can make the nation proud by going all the way."
Apart from the opportunity to represent India, Balasubramanya R, along with his partner Amit Japuria each won a week-long trip on the luxurious Golden Chariot train, sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, having as a team scored a total score of 79 points on Day One of the tournament

In a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Orchid, Bengaluru, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Private Ltd gave away awards to all the winners. With the Indian team finalised for World Golfers Championships, each of these five gentlemen are looking forward the competition to be held between October 26th and November 2nd , 2013 in Durban, South Africa.

About Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival

The Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival (TKGF) in its fifth year is an annual gala affair of Southern India held between 12th to 15th September, 2013 at one of the finest golf courses in Asia, the picturesque Karnataka Golf Association, Bangalore.

The TKGF, presented by Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, marks the recognition of Karnataka as a Golf Tourism destination. Born in 2009, TKGF, in a short span of time, has evolved into a premier golf event for amateur golfers of India. This is Karnataka's largest amateur Golf event at a single club where over 450 golfers will participate over 4 days.

TKGF is the official India qualifier for the World Golfers' Championship (WGC) in which five winners from this tournament, will represent India at the WGC in Durban, South Africa, 26th Oct to 2nd Nov, 2013.
