The three-day International Conference on Recent Advances in Obstetrics & Gynaecology kick-started today in Hyderabad at Hyderabad International Convention Centre. Organized by FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric Gynaecological Societies of India) and OGSH (Obstetric & Gynaecological Society of Hyderabad) the conference is aimed at curbing social discrimination against the girl child in India. The conference was inaugurated by Shri Dr K Chiranjeevi Garu, Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism (IC), Government of India in the presence of Shri GantaSrinivasa Rao, Minister for Infrastructure & Investments and Ports, Airport, Natural Gas, GOAP and Mr Micheal Mullins, Consulate General of the United States of America, Hyderabad and other eminent doctors and delegates.
The conference encapsulates panel discussions & workshops by eminent doctors and delegates from the fraternity on significant subjects such as fetal surveillance – for intact survival and a innovations & implementation, non-communicable diseases and safe motherhood on the first day, followed by Urogynaecology, tackling haemorrhage -sparing the uterus, ovulation induction and cancer .
On the final day subject focus is on caesarean section, tumor talk, women’s health in the 21st century, Oncology and enhancing fertility and much more. The conference will have a series of experts from different fields throwing light on the status of women and girl children in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Dr K Chiranjeevi Garu, Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism (IC), Government of India said, “I am very proud to be a part of this extremely prestigious three-day International Conference; we must overcome this major concern through social awareness and strict enforcement of the PNDT Act.Declining sex ratio in India is an alarming issue and improvement of basic healthcare facilities and nutrition of pregnant women should be the only aim to curb all socio-cultural practises and discrimination against women. Hence, it has to be an on-going process to educate people about not only saving the girl child but also maintaining a healthy gender balance in a particular society.”
A series of panel discussions, sessions and workshops during the conference willbe organized with an aim to create awareness among people from different races, cultures, backgrounds and community at large about the importance of saving a girl child and declining sex ratio in India and its negative impact on the society.
Commenting on the same, Dr. Shantha Kumari, Organizing Secretary, Vice – President, FOGSI, 2013 said, “Conferences are the best means of exchanging ideas and discussing issues.Taking into account the discrimination against women and a girl child from the earliest stages and throughout, it has certainly become a national concern and we aim to discuss it in the next two days. We are expecting and encouraging solutions to be thrown up to ensure that this discrimination is reduced to a large extentin India. This conference will serve as a platform for many important doctors & delegates to come out with possible solutions and thoughts on the subject, considering practical difficulties.”
She further added, “I am extremely pleased with the response we have received of about 1500 International & National delegates attending the three day conference. This gives us the vision and confidence to go ahead and conduct this prestigious International Conference of FIGO in Hyderabad.
