TENNECO CLEAN AIR TECHNOLOGIES SHOWCASED AT ECMA

Tenneco Automotive India Limited presented its Clean Air division’s solutions for emerging markets at the recent 5th Emission Control Technologies Conference in New Delhi.  The conference entitled “Implementation & Challenges for Pan India Emission Norms” and organized by the Emission Control Manufacturers Association (ECMA), was attended by vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, industry thought leaders and research organizations in the field of Automobile emissions from India and around the world.

Tenneco's suite of clean air technologies are specifically designed to enable reduction of NOx, particulate matter mass and number, as well as hydrocarbons and CO2. Mr. Pankaj Kapoor, Deputy Managing  Director, Tenneco Automotive India, said: “Tenneco’s experience in systems integration, thermal management, materials science, predictive tooling, engineering and design together with its expanded global footprint provide customers with solutions that can be implemented anywhere in the world without compromising vehicle performance or durability. Here in India we are committed to adapting these technologies to India’s current and future emission norms and in line with Indian conditions.”

Dr. Padmanabha Ettireddy, an emissions expert from Tenneco’s North American Technology Development Centre in Grass Lake, Michigan, presented Tenneco’s Hydrocarbon-dosed Lean NOx Catalyst Systems (HC-LNC), developed using the company’s experience in Urea-dosed Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) solutions. The HC-LNC technology is of particular importance in Brazil where ethanol used as a reductant has been tested extensively by OEMs there.

Dr. Ettireddy also presented other state-of-the art Tenneco technologies. These included the company’s combined SCR (selective catalytic reduction) DPF (diesel particulate filter) unit, or SDPF, which is a single catalytic converter capable of controlling both NOx and PM emissions and unique compact mixing zone solution. When used with SDPF technology, Tenneco’s compact mixing zone solution helps to ensure efficient conversion of injected urea droplets into the desired ammonia without the formation of deposits, especially in low temperature applications. Further, the compact mixing zone in combination with the SDPF may reduce the overall size of the after treatment system, enabling reduced packaging.

Other technologies that were showcased by Tenneco at the exhibition included:

Fabricated Manifolds:

Tenneco’s family of fabricated manifold systems include shell, tubular and double-wall air gap insulated manifolds, all of which provide significant weight, durability and packaging advantages when compared to cast manifolds.

XNOx™ Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR):

XNOx™ combines Tenneco’s expertise in calibrating urea dosing systems with top-performing components such as the company’s patented XNOx™ injector to deliver an optimized solution with more than 95 percent NOx conversion efficiency. The process uses a chemical reaction to convert toxic NOx from engine emissions into harmless nitrogen and water, helping Tenneco’s global customers meet the world’s increasingly stringent NOx emission standards while delivering the engine performance that consumers expect.

Light-Vehicle Exhaust systems

Light vehicle Exhaust systems capable of meeting Euro 6 norms with a DOC-DPF converter in the close-coupled location, a SCR Converter with Dosing Adapter and the Tenneco patented Mixer Element.
