Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government in New Delhi has reduced the power tariff by 50 percent in the national capital for those using upto 400 units of power every month. The formal announcement in this regard was made by Shri Arvind Kejriwal newly elected Chief Minister of Delhi during a press meet today.
The move expected to cost Rs.200 crore subsidy burden on the Delhi Government and little more than 28 lakhs electricity consumers in Delhi are expected to benefited by this move directly.
Earlier Delhi Government approached CAG to audit the accounts power distribution companies in Delhi. There are allegations that power utilities in Delhi are fudging their accounts to show loses in their books. It may be noted that Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission is the empowered body to set the power tariff rates in Delhi. And Delhi Government has no power to change the power tariff rates fixed by Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission. But Delhi Government can subsidies the power tariffs by providing subsidy amount to the power companies.
