150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda celebrated across India as National Youth Day

A patriotic saint, a man who stood tall both literally and figuratively and created ripples not only in India but also in the West, Swami Vivekananda was much more than a religious figure. In my opinion, he is the greatest saint India has seen. "Arise, awake and stop not that till the goal is reached" was his clarion call to the youth and it`s a message that resonates with us even today.

India celebrates National Youth Day on the occasion of Vivekananda`s birth anniversary.The 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated with fervour throughout West Bengal as well.The main functions were held at his birthplace at Shimla Street in North Kolkata and at Belur Math, the headquarter of Ramakrishna Mission.
Colourful processions by school children and people of all walks of life were seen in the morning despite biting cold and fog in several parts of the state.
Born on this date, now celebrated as National Youth Day, in 1863 as Narendra Nath Datta, he was the chief disciple of saint Ramakrishna and went on to set up the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
