Prior to joining Vijaya Bank, he was Executive Director in Oriental Bank of Commerce. He has been a professional banker for 37 years with a very rewarding and eventful stint at Bank of Maharashtra (He was General Manager in Bank of Maharashtra). He was Director on the Boards of -SBI Global Factors, a subsidiary of SBI in the capacity of Nominee Director since 2007 till 2010 & Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Co. since August 2012 till December 2013.
After nearly three years at the helm, Mr.H. S. Upendra Kamath, the former Chairman and Managing Director of Vijaya Bank, demitted office on December 31,2013.Despite the period being a difficult one for the banking sector as a whole, Mr.Kamath had managed to boost the Vijaya Bank’s business volumes, increased its retail focus and kept costs in check.
