Mukesh Ambani steps down from IIM Bangalore as Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw takes over new chairperson
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the new chairperson of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) as incumbent Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries stepped down.
At the meeting of the Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore held on February 11, 2014 the Chairperson, Mr. Mukesh Ambani, advised the Board of his decision to step down.  The Board, accordingly, appointed Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw as the Chairperson of the IIMB Board with effect from February 11, 2014.
Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon Limited, has been a member of the IIMB Board for the past several years. She is the first woman Chairperson of any IIM Board.  She takes over from Mr. Mukesh D. Ambani, who has been the Chairman of the Board for the last eight years. The Ministry of HRD has notified this change.

It may recalled that Petroleum minister M Veerappa Moily, Reliance Industries Ltd. chief Mukesh Ambani, former Union minister Murli Deora and retired director general of hydrocarbons VK Sibal were  named in an FIR by anti-corruption branch of Delhi government in the Reliance gas price issue and resignation of Mukesh Ambani from chairmanship of IIM-B could be seen in that context.

Mr. Ambani thanked the Board of Governors, the faculty, the staff, the alumni and the students of IIM Bangalore for all support and their efforts in making IIMB as a world-class institution.
