Community initiative is an integral part at Canadian International School. Through Community Service, all students at CIS have been given the opportunity to make connections between their intellectual and social development and the benefits that they can contribute to the community. As part of the initiative, Canadian International School has set up Leo Club at its campus.
The Club has over 25 student members and more students are willing to join. They have raised Rs. 25,000 towards the Lions Club's artificial limb initiative, thus providing 25 people with prosthetic limbs.
The Leo Club had a charter ceremony where the members were given certificates as a token of appreciation for being a part of the club. Gauri Prasad, the President and Founder member of the Club was also awarded a special award called the Extension Award for taking the initiative to start the Leo club. The ceremony was presided over by the Lion District Governor Mr. Kumar and the Head of School, Mr. Shane Kells.
We have also raised awareness about the blood donation camps that the Lions Club conducts every month. We now plan to raise money for the Rakum Blind School near Hebbal. Future plans include conducting a book and clothes collection drive for the children of the school. We also plan on holding bake sales as well as a dress up dress down day. The proceeds of the event will go towards the Blind school. Although we are all still new to the concept of Leo clubs, I am very happy with the progress our club has had so far. Everything we do every day is definitely a huge learning process, and has made us all grow as individuals. Overall, I think the Leo club has provided a positive influence in encouraging students to help the community said - Gauri Prasad, Leo President - Grade 12 student at CIS.
"The spirit of ‘Satisfaction through Service' is alive and well at Canadian International School, with High School Leo Club members engaged in a host of projects aimed at bettering the lives of those in the community who are less fortunate. I applaud the Leo Club's efforts and hope to see the student members carry on their outstanding work throughout their CIS careers and beyond." said - Shane Kells, Head of School, Canadian International School.
The Leo Club has been a wonderful initiative taken up by the students of the Canadian International School. Under the guidance of the parent Sanjaynagar Lions Club, which is in itself well recognized for its yeoman service to the community, I am confident that the Leo Club, Canadian International School, will flourish and grow and its members will continue to work on community causes with the same enthusiasm and dedication they have shown so far, said - Geetha Swamy – Leo Club Supervisor/College Guidance Counselor
The enthusiasm and the dedication of these students is bound to take this Club forward in a big way. The Leo Club will be a great way to bring the students of CIS together and do something for the greater change of the society and develop promising qualities like responsibility, leadership and kindness which will stay with them throughout their lives.
