Hyderabad Bicycling Club Chairman Mr. D V Manohar has been invited to be a Member on the Steering Board of the World Cycling Alliance (WCA). WCA, the Apex Cycling Federation for the World, is being launched at the forthcoming Velo-City Global 2014, the Annual World Cycling Conference, at Adelaide, Australia between 26th & 30th May, 2014.
This is a great honor bestowed on Mr. Manohar, as he is the only Indian invited to serve on the Steering Board of WCA. This is in recognition of the stupendous work done by Mr Manohar, in promoting Cycling in India and building Hyderabad Bicycling Club into the largest Bicycling club in the world on the Meetup.
WCA will comprise of the European Cycling Federation (ECF, which is the umbrella Federation of more than 70 Bicycling Associations in Europe and beyond) along with a number of cycling associations from across the World. All the present Members and Associate Members of ECF including the Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) will have the status of Founding Members of WCA.
Mr D V Manohar is also invited as Speaker to address the Velo-City Global 2014 twice, first at the Scientists for Cycling Colloquium on the opening day of the Conference ie., 26th May, 2014 and again on 27th May, 2014 in the session on Cycling in developing and emerging countries on the topic ‘The herculean efforts to promote cycling in India.’
Velo-City Global Conference is very well attended with thousands of delegates from all countries across the world and Mr D V Manohar is the only speaker from India at this Global Cycling Conference and gets the privilege to share with this august audience about the state of cycling in India.
HBC emerged as the World’s largest Cycling Club on Meetup overtaking the Denver Front Range Cycling Club, USA to achieve this unique distinction. HBC has grown six times in the last two years to reach the present membership strength of over 5100 members. HBC’s first of its kind Bike Stations at Gachibowli and Necklace Road have transformed the Twin Cities, resulting in more and more people taking to cycling.
