Kerala set to make a mark on the Indian 'Information Technology Map'

With Kerala poised to become a big hub in the IT landscape of India, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is opening its regional chapter in Kerala. NASSCOM has also appointed Mr. Sujit Unni to take care of the state regional chapter. To mark the occasion of the opening of the regional chapter, NASSCOM is also holding a day-long Executive Council meeting at the IBS campus in Technopark, for the first time.


Expressing his views, Mr. Rajendra Pawar, Chairman, NASSCOM, said, “Strong local economic growth and rapid advancement in technology infrastructure has helped Kerala transform its image, and emerge as the leading IT-BPO destination in India. Industry, Academia and NASSCOM will come together and collaborate to take decisive steps to develop high calibre talent pool, foster a sustainable ecosystem for research and innovation, and actively work to establish Kerala as a trusted hub for professional services, and ensure adequate policy support to Text Box: Kerala – A snapshot • Literacy Rate of over 90 with a per capita income at current prices Rs. 27,048 • Engineering Graduates - 30,000; Graduates – 153,184; Post Graduates – 16,118 • Presence of more than 300 cos in Kerala into Software and services; 90% are SME’s • 27 IT/ITeS/BPO companies are members of NASSCOMkeep the momentum strong.”

As Kerala sets it foot to become the next hub for IT-BPO sourcing, there is a need for the Industry to get into partnerships with academia and ensure that the basic soft skills can be imparted at the academic level thus enabling the industry to focus on specialized trainings for the workforce. The Industry, with the help of various supportive Government policies, also needs to act as a key catalyst for increased IT adoption, and help IT acceptance through public services that creates large scale IT infrastructure and promotes corporate participation.

Happy over the development, Mr. V.K. Increased IT adoption will act as an instrument for the State’s overall development and will become a tool for increasing productivity, making processes faster & bringing transparency in governance resulting in improved quality of life for the common man.
