An established limited overs player, McDonald can anchor an innings, arrest a collapse and rebuild an innings or come out slogging at the end of it as a batsman. As a bowler he can build up and sustain pressure at one end with his highly disciplined medium pace, suffocating batsmen for runs, creating chances for his bowling partners to go for wickets. Andrew McDonald played for the Victorian Bushrangers in the previous editions of the Australian domestic T20 tournament and is skipper of the Melbourne Renegades side in the ongoing Big Bash League where one of his teammates is another RCB player, Dirk Nannes. McDonald has scored 156 runs at an average of 52 in 5 matches and taken one wicket in the tournament which is underway at the moment.
McDonald represented the Delhi Daredevils in earlier editions of the Indian Premier League. Bought back by Delhi in the 2011 auction for $ 80,000, he played 6 matches for the team between 2009-11, making 76 runs in five innings and taking 5 wickets.
